Edgan Cullman

CULLMAN, EDGAR MEYER of New York City and Stamford, CT died peacefully on August 28th at 93, the 73rd anniversary of his marriage to Louise Bloomingdale. A legend in the cigar business, Edgar was Chairman of General Cigar from 1961-2005. He was the third generation of his family to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Mount Sinai Medical Center, and he served in this capacity for over 50 years. He was the President of the Hotchkiss School Board of Trustees, and had a long standing involvement with Yale University. A staunch supporter of Yale football, Edgar rarely missed a game. Other passions were Atlantic salmon, horseback riding and tennis. He considered himself an excellent dancer and delighted in serving family and friends vegetables from his garden. The former Chairman of the Board of the Tryall Club in Jamaica, he was awarded "Commander of Distinction" Jamaica's highest honor from its Government for a non-Jamaican. Edgar is survived by his wife Louise, and their three children: Lucy Cullman Danziger and her husband Mike, Edgar M. Cullman Jr. and his wife Ellie, Susan Cullman and her husband, John Kirby, along with six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and three step grandchildren. Internment will be private.
