James Fahey Obituary

James B. Fahey
James B. Fahey, 93, of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Stamford Hospital.
Jim was born on May 9, 1932, in Galway, Ireland (in the small town of Nogra) to John Fahey and Norah St. George-Fahey. He emigrated from Ireland to the United States in February 1957 after graduating from St. Mary's College and University College Galway. He worked for Norma Hoffman/FAG Bearings Corporation for 41 years and retired as Director of Taxes in 1998. He then consulted for the Company for another 5 years.
Jim was devoted to his Catholic faith at St. Maurice Catholic Church and the last few years at St. Bridget of Ireland Catholic Church for over 50 years, almost all spent as an usher and greeter at the Church. He was awarded the St. Augustine Medal from the Diocese of Bridgeport for his service to St. Maurice parish. The family is grateful to these communities and Fr. Jim Bates for their love and support.
The love of his life was his precious wife Mary Hughes Fahey who passed away too soon on December 7, 2015. He visited her almost every day, when he was able, at St. John's cemetery in Darien. Her plot always had the nicest plantings and grass as he worked tirelessly at maintaining the area. The other loves of his life were his seven children and sixteen grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as Papa.
Jim was a New York Yankees fan and rarely missed attending Opening Day or Old Timers Day for over 40 years during his working years. He loved watching his children and then his grandchildren compete in all types of sports and activities.
Jim is survived by his loving children, Mairead Brunton and her husband Mark, Nora Powell, John Fahey and his wife Shannon, Mary Ellen Lieby and her husband Chris, Sally Bennett and her husband Dave, Tricia Orszulak and her husband Chris, Jim Fahey and his wife Barb, sixteen grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Jenna, Matthew, Tommy, Sean, Hannah, Emma, Connor, Cara, Olivia, Ciara, Caitlin, Grace, Maggie, Keegan, Caden and Charlotte.
Also surviving is Jim's sister Mary Smyth, and his sisters in-law Lina Fahey, Noreen Fahey, and Jo Fahey, and his first cousins Patricia (Pash) Rybnick and Patricia (Patti) Krupnik. Additionally, his in-laws, Eddie Byrne, Tom Joe Hughes, Catherine Fahey and her husband John, Una Doone and her husband Larry, Peader Hughes, Maureen Hughes, and Patricia Kelly and her husband Patrick. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his siblings John Joe Fahey, Miko Fahey, Richard Fahey and Paddy Fahey.
A funeral procession will be leaving Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave, Stamford on Monday, August 25, 2025, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Bridget of Ireland Catholic Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Stamford at 12:00 noon. Family and Friends may call on the funeral home on the same day Monday, August 25, 2025, from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jim's memory to St. Bridget of Ireland Catholic Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Stamford, 06902.
The family would like to thank Waveny Lifecare Network for the home hospice care over the last few months, especially his good friend and nurse Kervens.

Yesterday

I remember my dear Mother
working at Norma Hoffman and the name of her boss was James
Fahey. She always remarked
how much she enjoyed working for him. I knew right away when
I read his Legacy online that this
was the person she spoke about.
My dear Mother has passed away many years ago but I knew
immediately this was the Jim
Fahey who was her boss. Someone´s kindness to another
will never be forgotten...especially by family members.
Please accept my deepest sympathy on Jim´s passing.
Sincerely,
