Peter Nanos Obituary

Peter C. Nanos
Peter C. Nanos, 90, of Stamford passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 28, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
Peter was born in Leondarion, Arkadias, Greece on July 12, 1933 to the late Christos and Georgia Maglanis Nanos. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Thamie, his brother, Athanasios, his great-granddaughter, Hailey, and his brother-in-law, George Koutsoukos.
Peter is survived by his daughter, Janine Soulios, and her husband, Nikolaos, of Stamford; his son, Christopher Nanos, and his wife, Pamela, of Stamford; his son, Paul Nanos, and his wife, Tracey, of Farmington. He is also survived by his sister, Aimilia Koutsoukos, of Greece; his brother, Theodore Nanos, and his wife, Mahi; his brother, Apostolos Nanos, and his wife Debbie; his sister-in law Penny Nanos, all of Stamford. Additionally, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Elaine Katsaros, and her husband, George, of Mamaroneck, NY. He will be truly missed by his grandchildren: Christina, Alexis, Jennifer, Peter, TJ (Ashley) & Mia Nanos, Tricia (Alex) Bletsas and Michael (LeAnn) Goulet, as well as his six great-grandchildren: Sophia, Isabella, Madison, Christopher, Deangelo and Lilah; as well as many nieces and nephews.
His greatest joy came from being with his family. Peter was able to spend 53 years with the love of his life, Thamie, before her passing. They were the perfect couple. They lived their lives together and truly never went to bed mad at each other and said "I love you" to each other every single day of their lives.
He was the most generous, helpful, and kind husband, father, brother, and friend that anyone could have. His commitment to helping others was a cornerstone of his life. He dedicated countless hours to various charities, from volunteering at his local church to raising funds and housing patients from the Ronald McDonald House. He was a friend to all and was willing to help anyone in need.
Peter had great pride in serving his community of Stamford that he loved so dearly.
Peter was a devoted member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels and served as a member of the church's Board of Trustees. He was a member of the American Hellenic Progressive Association (AHEPA), President of the Greek Hellenic Association, Vice President of the Greek Children's Cancer Fund, a member of the Mason's Lodge 108 and the State Street Debating Society. He was an elected member of the City of Stamford's Board of Representatives and served on several city commissions, including the Personnel Committee.
Peter came to America at the age of 23 in 1956 when he left his native country of Greece to seek a better life. Armed with courage, hope and dreams of a better future, he set sail for a land of opportunity. His immigrant story is a testament to his resilience and determination, as he overcame the challenges of adapting to a new culture, learning a new language, and forging a path to success. He began his career in America as a factory worker at Pitney Bowes, but quickly turned to real estate in his pursuit of the American Dream, being both a real estate broker and investor during his career. Along with his brothers, they formed Nanos Brothers, Inc., which was a real estate investing company. Peter and his brothers also owned the Halfway House Restaurant in Darien from 1976-1981.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors that took exceptionally great care of Peter, especially Dr. Arthur Heliotis, Dr. Anthony Gulati, Dr. Thomas Nero and Dr. Nicholas Stroumbakis. The family would also like to thank Zoe Tsertsvadze for the wonderful care she provided for him.
Family & friends may call at the Greek Orthodox Church of The Archangels, 1527 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT on Tuesday October 31, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a Trisagion Service to be held at 6:30 pm. A funeral service will be held at the Greek Orthodox Church of The Archangels on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, Oaklawn Ave, Stamford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Greek Children's Cancer Fund at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/greek-childrens-fund-40th-anniversary-gala-tickets-704963824777?aff=oddtdcreator or to The Church of the Archangels.

To the Nanos family,
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Theo Pete. He was such a kind and caring man. I remember his face during Thamie´s funeral service. He looked like he lost his true soulmate. They will now be reunited at last. May his memory be eternal, and we wish the family to find comfort knowing he is at peace and not suffering. His legacy lives on in his children, grandchildren, and so on.
With Love,
The Glekas family - South Carolina

To the Nanos family, I am so sorry for your loss. My family and I knew Mr. and Mrs. Nanos since I was a teenager from the neighborhood and church. I remember my Dad and Mr. Nanos sharing stories and a laughs together - both had a great sense of humor and big hearts! I had my wedding reception at the Halfway House Restaurant and my parents 25th wedding anniversary there. Your Dad always treated us like family! Mr. and Mrs. Nanos are now together. May your Dad rest in peace and eternal be his memory.

You treated our family like members of your family. Thank you. The best way to keep your memory eternal is to try and be half the humanitarian you were. Mrs. Nanos will be waiting for you with open arms. I love you Mr. Nanos.
