Born and raised in Harwood, he was the son of the late Moses and Mary (Onufer) VanBlargan. He was a 1949 graduate of Hazle Twp. High School.
Ed served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. After being honorably discharged he worked at Barrett and Haentjens and later at MetLife. Prior to retirement, he was employed at Consolidated Freight.
Being a devout Catholic, he was a former member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, West Hazleton, and currently a member of Holy Name of Jesus Parish, West Hazleton.

He was a past member of the Hazleton Elks Lodge, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 200, the Booster Club of West Hazleton, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge No. 193 and the Pulaski Club of West Hazleton. Ed was always proud to attend his Hazle Twp. Class of '49 high school reunions.
Most important to Ed was his family. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He adored his wife, Rose, whom he shared 67 years of marriage and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren's careers and accomplishments.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving sister, Marie Brown Duffy; and nephew, Eugene Brown.
