Gregory C. "Barney" Sholtis, 65, of East Patterson Street, Lansford, passed away Wednesday at home, in the loving care of his family after a courageous battle against cancer.
Born Thursday, March 22, 1956, in Hazleton, he was the son of Peter and Marie (Luchetta) Sholtis, McAdoo.
He was predeceased by his father, Peter Sholtis; and brother, Robert Sholtis.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 30 years, Lisa A. (Dougherty) Sholtis; daughters, Tiffany Marie (Sholtis) Nunemacher, wife of Shawn, Lansford; Samantha Sholtis, Coaldale; sister, Roxanne Christman, wife of Ivan, Palmerton; grandchildren, whom he adored and who affectionately called him "pappy," Xander, Arianna and Brielle. Many nieces and nephews also survive Gregory.
Catholic by faith, Gregory attended Hazleton schools. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force as an E3. Number one in seniority, Gregory spent 29 years as a forklift driver at Aspire Bakeries, once General Mills. Gregory was an avid sports fan, following the N.Y. Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Celtics. An avid fisherman, Gregory also liked to garden while enjoying the outdoors. He was crazy about his grandchildren and enjoyed playing video games in his down time.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.
Funeral services with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Presentation of colors by the U.S. Air Force with support from the Tamaqua American Legion in the side courtyard of the funeral home following services.
Entombment will be at 1 p.m. July 27 in Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
