James K. Schellhamer, Hazleton, retired captain of the Hazleton Police Department, died Monday afternoon at his residence following a two-year battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Audenreid, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth "Betty" Evans Schellhamer.

Some of James' favorite things were traveling and shopping with his daughter and brother and playing with his puppies.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his brothers, David and Charles.
Surviving is his wife, the former Diane Bradish; daughter, Amanda, Hazleton; brother, Billy and his wife, Peggy, Gerald, Mo.; mother-in-law, Helen Bradish, Hazleton; niece, Rachel Schellhamer, Freeland; and several nephews and great-nieces.
