John J. Roman Jr. of Hazleton passed away July 31, at his home.
Born in Coaldale, he was the son of the late John and Sophia (Waslefsky) Roman.
A lifelong resident of Hazleton, he was a charter member of Faith United Church of Christ, Hazleton. A graduate of Hazleton High School, he went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree in education from the University of Miami, his Master of Arts degree and Master of Science degree from the University of Scranton. John was a charter member of the Scranton University chapter of Phi Delta Kappa honor society in education.
Prior to his retirement, he was a teacher and then a principal in the Hazleton Area School District.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was his wife, the former Brenda Hale, in 2017.
Surviving are his son, John Roman III; sisters, Dolores Koval, Sarasota, Fla.; and Carmella Bevan, Houston, Texas; and nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday from Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton, with the the Rev. Dr. M. Jane Hess officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
