Charles Goodnough Obituary

Charles Peter, MD Cooperstown, NY Age 60, an orthopedic surgeon, an adventurer and an admirer of literature, died Wednesday afternoon, February 20, 2002 at his home in Cooperstown, due to complications from colon cancer. Dr. Goodnough, known as Peter, was born January 21, 1942 in Watertown, NY, the oldest of six children born to Dr. Charles and Virginia (LaGraff) Goodnough. He married Nancy A. Taylor on July 16, 1966 in Medford Lakes, NJ. For 14 years, Dr. Goodnough was a partner at Elmira Orthopedic Associates in Elmira, NY, until he was called to military duty during the Gulf War. In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by three children, Abby Goodnough of Jersey City, NJ, Peter Goodnough of Hackensack, NJ and Taylor Goodnough of Brooklyn, his mother, Virginia Goodnough of Watertown and five brothers and sisters. Friends may call from 6-8 PM on Friday, February 22, 2002 at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, 82 Chestnut St., Cooperstown, when Dr, Goodnough's family will be in attendance. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 23, 2002 at the First Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown, with the Rev. Stephen J. Quinlan and the Rev. Lin R. Quinlan, co-pastors, officiating. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gift may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 542 Main Street, Oneonta, NY 13820, or The First Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown, 25 Church Street, Cooperstown, NY 13326, or the Louis Busch Hager Cancer Center, Bassett Healthcare, 1 Atwell Road, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
