Daniel Dugan Obituary

Dugan, Daniel J.

Daniel J. Dugan died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest September 1, 2012, at his home in Elmira, New York. Dan was born May 31, 1953, and grew up in Corning, New York. He graduated from St. Mary's School, Corning East High, Corning Community College and Northeastern University. He lived and worked in New York, Massachusetts, West Virginia and in Texas where he created, owned and operated Pasha's Pastries, before returning to the Corning area. Dan loved the outdoors and loved to work. His first job, delivering newspapers combined the two. He was active in scouting and was named Explorer Scout of the Year in Corning. He was a lifeguard for area pools. Dan won the Class B title in Corning's first Soap Box Derby, held near McKinney Park. Dan enjoyed working with his Dad refinishing an Austin Healey Sprite in their spare time in the back yard of the West Second Street family home. Dan loved to work out, bike and sail his 20' Super Cat sailboat in Texas and in the Finger Lakes. Dan lived his life, and in his later years faced disabilities with courage, humor, love and determination. His family is so proud of him. Dan's quiet, gentle manner, his love of family, his wonderful smile, and sense of humor will be greatly missed. Dan was a loving brother to sisters Pat (Roy Ernst), Judy Echols (Les), Joan Wilson (Jim), and brothers Jim (Charlotte), and William. He was a proud Uncle to Stacy Vacca, Jennifer Echols, Erin Echols, Cory Dugan (Rich Pulver), and Patrick Dugan (Erin). He was also very happy to be a Great Uncle to Braiden, Mason and Scarlett Genevieve. Dan was predeceased by his parents James and Genevieve Dugan, his brother John and his niece Stephanie Vacca. Memorials can be made in Dan's name especially to any local food bank and to the Southeast Steuben County Library Children's Department. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at the convenience of his family. Haughey Funeral Home, 216 East First Street in Corning has been entrusted with arrangements.
