John Zito Obituary

John Joseph Age 77, died at his son's home in Chino Valley, Arizona, on Saturday, May 27, 2006, under the cherry tree from a possible heart attack. Born 10-15-1928 in Elmira, NY, to the late Frank and Concetta Zito. A U.S. Navy Veteran. Married to Yvonne Feig Rice of Pennsylvania, in 1954, and had two sons, Johvonn and Gary. Later in life, he married Doris Maricle Hines from Cortland, NY, in 1973. He resided in Cortland, NY, until October of 2005 when he moved to Chino Valley, Arizona. Johnny (Papa John) to grandchildren, loved to fish, hunt, cook and to garden. He loved to sing, especially to Dean Martin, and never missed a good sale. Papa John is survived by his son, Johvonn (Jody); and other son, Gary (Breda) Zito, Chino Valley, AZ; stepchildren, Linda (Bob) Osgood, Tampa Bay, Florida, Tom Rice, Stu Rice, Chino Valley, AZ, Sharon (David Blatchly), Cortland, NY; step grandchildren, Caitlyn (Chad Dehoff) of Pennsylvania, Robert (Heather Blatchly) of Colorado; grandchildren, Jessica Zito-Law, Joshua Zito, and Rebekah Zito of Chino Valley, AZ; also his great-step grandchild, Carson Dehoff just born October 11, 2005; his brother, Carmen (Jenny), Horseheads, NY; and sisters, Mary (John Feltcher), Penn Yan, NY, and Margaret, Elmira, NY. He is further survived by nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Frank; and sister, Yolanda. Memorial services were held in Arizona at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Mt. Vernon Church of Christ, 120 N. Mt. Vernon Ave., Prescott, AZ 86301, conducted by Mike Scott and Gary Zito. A Military funeral will be held at Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, NY, at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, June 16, gathering with meal at Horseheads Church of Christ, 165 Miller Street, Horseheads, NY 14845. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Stockmen's Bank Chino Valley Ranch, 1299 N. Highway 89, Chino Valley, AZ 86323 acct# 7050072623 - make checks payable to Jody or Gary Zito. A Youth Scholarship fund will be set up in John's name.
