Marguerite Pyhtila Obituary

Marguerite Warren (Watts) Pyhtila

Syracuse - Marguerite (Marge) Pyhtila, 91, passed away peacefully March 4, 2018, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Auburn, NY on October 20, 1926, to the late Walter and Irene Corgnell Warren. After graduating from East High School, Marguerite completed her education at Elmira College where she met and married Paul J. Watts, deceased. As a young Air Force wife, she lived in post World War II Germany, traveled Europe and much of the USA, returning to NYS to raise a family (Auburn, Baldwinsville).

Marguerite worked as an executive secretary until 1972 when she married Waino "Walt" Pyhtila (deceased) and moved to Van Etten, NY.

As a woman of faith, she always joined a congregation where she was living, volunteered her secretarial skills for the church bulletins, attended bible study and participated in the life of the church. When she returned to Auburn in 2001, she joined Westminster Presbyterian Church, and found a loving family, who showered her with attention these past few years.

Marguerite leaves her daughters, Barbara (Joel Weirick) Bowen, Cindi (Tom) Braunmueller, Karyn (Dave) Mazzeo; grand children, Jon Bowen, Keith (Bre Grant) Braunmueller, Laura (Colin) Walsh, Jaime Mazzeo, Paul Weirick, Julia Braunmueller, Eric Mazzeo; four great-grandchildren; nephew Mike Warren, and niece, Peggy Warren Cooper; step children, Martha (Jim) Bailey, John Pyhtila (Karen), Jean Berkley, Suzanne Pyhtila, Wayne Pyhtila, Ellen (Daryl) Cooper, grandchildren, Tana Shabazian, George (Mary) Shabazian, Nicole (Tim) Fountain, Gary (Melissa) Pyhtila, Todd (Lisa) Pyhtila, Kenneth (Miranda) Berkley, Kendra Berkley, Shannon (Kevin) Shelton, Eric (Brittany) Pyhtila, Christine (Tom) Frost, Daune (Craig) Sunday, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as her legacy of love and kindness.

She shared her gifts of easy laughter and a ready smile with everyone she came in contact with. She surprised us all by knowing the words to all the "oldies", bringing smiles to the faces of her friends and care givers with her songs.

A graveside service will be held at North Van Etten Community Church Cemetery in the spring at the family's convenience.

Contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 17 William St., Auburn, NY 13021, to the Calvary Food Pantry, 90 Franklin St., Auburn, NY or a charity of your choice, in memory of Marguerite Pyhtila.
