Some things are just so hard to believe. I'm writing this an hour before mark's funeral. I know you all will celebrate mark's life in a beautiful worship service. It is your faith and belief in a resurrected Jesus that will guide you through this time. When things get hard and there seems no where to turn - remember the strength you have in each other and in a God who walks with us each day our lives. Mark got there first...we'll all meet up one day again in joyful celebration of the God we serve. I love you all!

I extend my sincerest condolences to Mark's wife and their girls, Mr. and Mrs. Erickson, Karen, and Sue. I can't begin to imagine your pain, but I hope the memory of Mark sustains -- prompting a smile amid the tears. Despite the years that accrue thanks to schooling, jobs, rearing kids, acquiring stuff, and so on, the memory of Mark, and all of the "hill guys" and gals, sledding down from an upper green at the Mark Twain, erecting cardboard forts bound to fail, Troop 13 meetings at Oakwood and antics on scouting overnights, softball behind Jim's, night hoops at Walt's, etc. remains clear and dear. For all of us who shared a youth and neighborhood, Mark will always stay young, and not so distant, gracing us with a smile of remembrance. Peace and blessings, G. Wayne Barr

Dear Donna and Family,

I just wanted you to know how saddened I was to learn of Mark's passing. At least we know that he is in a better place--one where there is no pain or suffering. Although I did not have the opportunity to be around Mark very much, I feel like I knew him through the stories Ginny has recounted to me about the things you all did together throughout the years.

I pray that God will give you comfort and peace throughout the coming days. Although I cannot be there with you in person, please know that I will be keeping you in my thoughts, prayers, and heart.

With all my love,

Dear Donna, Julie, Anne, Heather, Teresa and Mark's family,

I just don't know what to say to all of you. Mark was like a brother to me and a wonderful friend to Greg. We have so many wonderful memories of times we shared on vacation and at each other's houses no matter where we ended up. I know Mark is shaking up heaven with his booming voice, and feeling great and hugging his brother. He was a good man with a wonderful heart and Greg and I will miss him dearly. Don't ever hesitate to call us if you need anything.

Love always,

March 26, 2010

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Donna, Julie, Annie, Heather and Theresa...and Dona and Ken, and all the rest of the family, my sincerest sympathy goes out to you today. May God ease the sorrow you feel today and fill that space with all the happy memories you have.
