Paul Bonyak Obituary

BONYAK, Paul
Age 92, of Elmira Heights, NY, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2009, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born on March 16, 1917 in Lykens, PA to the late John and Mary (Roman) Bonyak. Paul was predeceased by his wife, L. Madelene Bonyak in 2004; sons, Thomas and William Bonyak and James Fish; daughters, Shirley Weiskopf and Pauline Oliver; and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include his sons, Robert Bonyak of FL, Joseph (Rita) Fish of Erin and Thomas Fish of Ontario, NY; son-in-law, Donald Weiskopf of Elmira Heights; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Paul was a past Commander of the Catholic War Veterans and a longtime member of the American Legion Post 154 in Elmira Heights. He was also a longtime communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Paul loved to play bingo and skat. In his free time, Paul enjoyed all of what nature had to offer including camping, traveling, fishing and boat trips on the St. Lawrence River. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, September 17th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Panykhda will be held there at 7 p.m. Panykhda will continue there on Friday, September 18th, at 10 a.m., followed by the Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church with Father Vasile Godenciuc as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Thank you for being a great father to my mother and grandfather to my sisters and I. Our walks to the bakery when I was young, many camping trips through the years and general caring for everyone and all of Gods creation. Thank you for serving before me in the battles of the world.
