Peter Louis Of Corning, NY. 76 years of 92 Pershing St. died Thursday, September 28, 2000 at the Corning Hospital. He was born February 23, 1924 in Corning, NY the son of Francis and Angeline Messina Giambrone. A lifetime resident of Corning, a graduate of St. Vincent's School and Northside High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. Peter and Eleanor Keane were married May 18, 1957 in St. Mary's Church. He had been employed as a car salesman for Jones Pontiac for 24 years prior to his employment with Corning, Inc., working in the Member Services Department of the Corning Credit Union, retiring August of 1986. Peter was a member of the Corning Painted Post Roman Catholic Community, attending St. Vincent de Paul Church, where he had served as an usher and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Corning Lodge of Elks #1071, the Marconi Lodge, American Legion John P. Eaton Post and the VFW. His Political history began when serving as Vice Chairman for the city Democratic Committee during 1961-64. He served as the 10th Ward Committee from 1960-1970 and 6th Ward Committee from 1970-1995. He was a member of the former Steuben County Supervisors from January 1, 1972-December 31, 1983, he served as Chairman of Public Relations Committee & Probation Committee, as well as being a member of the Human Services Committee & Administration Committee. In 1986 he was elected to Steuben County Legislative and served as Vice chairman of the Human Services Committee and was a member of the Administration and Rules Committee, retiring December 31, 1999. Surviving his Wife of 43 years, Eleanor; son: Thomas (Anna) Giambrone of Corning; daughters; Peggy (Jack) Simpson of Painted Post and Julie (Edward) Baer of Fort Wayne, IN; granddaughter; Caroline Baer; sisters; Catherine DiLaura of Corning and Mary (Leo) Graham of Corning; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Mary & Paul Hill of Corning; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St. Corning, Sunday, October 1, 2000 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Corning Lodge of Elks #1071 will have their Lodge of Sorrow Service at 7:30 PM. A Prayer Service will be offered at the funeral home Monday, October 2, 2000 at 12:15 PM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 PM at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Committal Prayers, Full Military Rites and Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.
