Raymond Bury Obituary

Raymond E. Jr. Age 72 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Sunday July 16, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. Raymond was born November 23, 1933 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Raymond E. and Rosemarie Hopkins Bury. Raymond was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy Class of 1951. Ray was a Veteran of The Korean War serving his country with The U.S. Army 11th Airborne Paratroopers. He married his wife, Kathryn Costley Bury, on June 29, 1957 and they recently celebrated their 49th Wedding Anniversary on June 29, 2006. Ray was an employee of Hardinge Brothers for 22 years and went to work for New York State Department of Transportation in Horseheads, NY where he retired after 23 years of dedicated service. Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid outdoorsman which was highlighted by his two African Safaris, trips to Newfoundland, and Deep Sea Fishing trips to Cape Hatteras. Ray was a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church and life-time member of The Horseheads Elks Lodge # 2297. Ray loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them especially his granddaughter Sophia who was "the apple of his eye". Ray is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years Kathryn Costley Bury; son and best friend: Daniel M. Bury of Horseheads, NY, daughter: Susan Bury McMaster and granddaughter Sophia of Horseheads, NY; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Lynch Funeral Home 318 West Broad Street Horseheads, NY on Wednesday July 19, 2006 from 5-8 PM. A Prayer Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday July 20, 2006 at 9 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Mary Our Mother Church. Interment in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery in Horseheads, NY. Those wishing may remember Ray through memorials to Southern Tier Hospice 11751 East Corning Road Corning, NY 14830.
