Stephen Sepka Obituary

Mr. Stephen N. Age 78, of 2804 University Drive, Durham, NC, died Friday evening, August 22, 2003, at Durham Regional Hospital. Mr. Sepka was born August 19, 1925 in Milltown, NJ, son of Steven and Helen Molteg Sepka. He attended the Milltown public schools and served as an altar boy at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was a member of the Milltown Rescue Squad where he held the position of captain. In 1942, Mr. Sepka became part of the Greatest Generation when he enlisted in the United States Navy. He participated in the campaigns of the South Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1952 at the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class. After short careers as a draftsman at Harding Brothers in Elmira Heights, NY, and as a brakeman on the Erie-Lackawana Railroad, he was employed for over 25 years with the Thatcher Glass Manufacturing Company in Elmira Heights, retiring in 1985. Mr. Sepka was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Mr. Sepka is survived by his children, Richard S. Sepka and wife Teressa of Durham, NC, William A. Sepka and wife Laura of Webster, NY, Beverly June Morrell and husband Arthur of Horseheads, NY; daughter-in-law, Julie Sepka of Pensacola, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Alyce Gaskin of Canisteo, NY; grandchildren, Selena, Robert, Jessica, Bernard, Daniel and Kathryn Sepka, Ian and Shana Morrell; as well as several nieces and nephews. His wife, Retabelle O. Sepka; son, Gerald G. Sepka; and brother, Leonard Sepka, all preceded Mr. Sepka in death. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2003, at 2 p.m., at Howerton & Bryan Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Phillip Wiggins. The family will receive visitors immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of one's choice.
