BIGG, William Edward Sr.

Age 78 of 80 Country Estates Dr., Horseheads, NY and San Juan, Puerto Rico was received by the hands of his Lord and Savior after an extended illness on Monday, October 7, 2013 at home in Puerto Rico with Beverly, his wife of 54 years and daughters Kimberley and Cindy at his side. Bill and Beverly renewed their wedding vows on September 5, 2013. His strong will to live; unwavering faith of God and the love and prayers of many family members and friends carried him through a life well lived. His gift of joy shown through his smile, laughter and the brightness of those big and bright blue eyes of his, will never be forgotten. "Bill" was born in Elmira, NY on November 30, 1934 to the late Edward H. and Rebecca F. Bigg. Bill is survived by his loving wife Beverly K. Bigg; brother Gerald (Joan) Bigg of Johnson City, NY; children William (Dawn) Bigg, Jr. of Colorado, Pamela Logan of Virginia, Cynthia (Michael) Apgar of North Carolina, Scott (Debbie) Bigg of Elmira, Kimberley Shanks of Utah and Janice Burns of Horseheads; close family friend Bernie Packard of Campbell, NY. Bill was predeceased by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law Leo T. and Leona H. Kline; brothers-in-law Leo Thomas Kline, Jr., George Kline, Louis Brink and Richard Kelley; sisters-in-law Stella Lola Kline and EmmaLou Brink. Mr Bigg is also survived by Beverly's siblings/spouses, Barbara (Paul) Howard, Bernard (Carol) Kline, Carol (Ronald) Mills, Patricia (Edward ) Sassano, Thomas (Stephanie) Kline along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved their "Poppy"; many nieces and nephews who loved their "Uncle Bill" and many lifelong and dear friends; especially Donald and Jan Wheeler and Robert and Annette Ricks. Bill worked for Thatcher Glass for 31 years, until its closure. Bill and Beverly were owners/operators of Biggsy's Corner and Biggsy's Restaurant in Hanover Square for many years. Bill was a very hard working, devoted and much loved man. He lived life with honesty, truth and integrity. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. A private service will be held in Puerto Rico. William's wishes are that any donations go to Joel Olsteen Ministries and the ASPCA as they were a tremendous inspiration and impact in his life.

Beverly, I just returned from a cruise and Stan's sister called me to let me know that Bill had passed away. You two were a "team" and as you can imagine, I know the pain you are going through. I think he will run into many old Thatcher friends and one of them will be my Stan whom I still miss each and every day. I'm sending a sympathy card to you and hope you receive it. All I have is your Horseheads address. If not, I hope you read this on line as it is Oct. 15 today. I hope we get to talk sometime. I am going to call your house, but I don't know if your home phone that is in the local phone book is even connected since you may be in Puerto Rico. Love and Deepest Sympathy to you and your family. We always enjoyed our time with you both. May God bless you and help you through this most difficult time. Please contact me sometime when you are in Horseheads.

Always wanted to thanked Bill for the day he saved me from a great embarrassment. I was Just a young kid of 19 starting out in engineering at Thatcher. Of Course I was free game for " THE PRANK" I was sent to central mold looking for a 9mm screwdriver. As I walked shop to shop looking for this screwdriver, a finger tapped me on the shoulder. It was Bill he said follow me. I thought cool finally a metric screwdriver. He took me to his office handed me a sandwich and son there is no such thing as a metric screwdriver, no mold stretchers, etc. etc. etc. So every time I went to central mold and there was a wink we both knew it was time to share a sandwich. Thanks Bill May you rest in peace.

Bev, Kim, and family: Sincere condolences on the passing of Hanover Square's shining light. When you moved to PR, the light in the Square faded and no one has been able to replace it. Bill's smile generated the light; Bev's laugh added the personality to Biggsy's Corner. Thanks to you and Bill for all the help you gave me and for trusting me to be involved in your radio advertising.. and the remote John St. John and I did for Halloween in the Square. May God see you through this difficult time and give you strength in the future. Kim, glad you were able to be with your Dad in his final time. Prayers coming your way also.... and to the rest of Bill's family.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
