Joan Sorflaten Obituary

Joan Eileen Sorflaten, 91, was born on May 16, 1934, in Frederick, MD. She was the daughter of Orville W. and Esther B. Sorflaten of Queenstown, MD. She passed away on August 8, 2025.

A graduate of Centreville High School in 1952, Joan went on to serve in the United States Air Force, where she spent 20 years honoring her country during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Her military career afforded her the opportunity to travel the world.

After retiring from the Air Force, Joan lived in Keller, TX for several years before returning to Maryland's Eastern Shore. She lived life on her own terms, and enjoyed community theater and the arts. She loved her cats, playing the piano, embroidering, quilting, and sewing. She was also an active member of the Maryland Questers.

She is survived by her sister, Donna S. Ward of Allegany, NY and several nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her parents and three sisters: Esther L. Moffett of Dover, DE, Judith S. Walsh of Centreville, MD and Vada A. Marks of Groveland, FL.

In accordance with Joan's wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private burial will be held at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
