It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maureen Anne Jacobs, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world on November 16, 2024, at the age of 80. Maureen was born on July 7, 1944, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY, to Cornelius F. Collins, Jr. and Veronica C. Clarke. Her journey through life was marked by love, dedication, and a profound commitment to her family and community.
Maureen was married to the love of her life, Michael J. Jacobs, on August 13, 1966. Together, they journeyed through life, sharing adventures that took them around the globe, thanks to Mike's work with the Coast Guard. Their partnership was a beacon of love and support, creating a family that would be a testament to their shared values and devotion.
She is survived by her cherished daughter, Melanie Anne Jacobs Barney, and her son, Jason Daniel Jacobs. Maureen's legacy lives on in her four beloved grandchildren: Jack M. Barney, Griffin T. Barney, Deanna M. Jacobs, and Nicholas C. Jacobs. These grandchildren knew her as "MoeMoe," a name that warmed her heart and encapsulated the bond they shared. The family will forever hold dear the memory of the many adventures they experienced together, often accompanied by laughter, learning, with questionable safety, when it came to playing with fire, a testament to Maureen's spirited approach to life and play.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Maureen is survived by her brother, Jeremiah J. Collins, as well as a host of nieces and nephews: Cordelia V. Nemeyer, David C. Collins, Lisa A. Montessi, Kirsten E. Starrett, and Shannon N. Keough. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael, and her sister, Cornelia V. Nemeyer.
A dedicated volunteer and community member, Maureen was a founding board member of For All Seasons and served with passion at the Upper Shore Community Mental Health Center and the Eastern Shore Hospital Center. She was a Licensed Certified Social Worker who spent her professional life serving those in the community with the least resources and the most critical needs. Her work was a reflection of her heart-always reaching out to help others.
Maureen's commitment to her faith was evident through her volunteer efforts at St. Vincent De Paul and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She cherished her involvement in these organizations, where she shared her warmth and compassion with all around her.
In her personal life, Maureen found joy in gardening, cooking, and entertaining. Her garden was a sanctuary of beauty, and her home was always open to family and friends, filled with laughter, love, and the delicious aromas of her culinary creations. She shared a particularly special bond with her god daughter, Cordelia Nemeyer, and their laughter together was a testament to the kindred spirits they were.
Maureen's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, kindness, and adventures with those she cherished. She was devoted to her family and spent countless happy hours creating memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her spirit, marked by warmth and compassion, will be terribly missed by her family and all who were touched by her light.
A funeral service for Maureen Anne Jacobs will be held on December 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, located at 1210 S Washington St., Easton, MD. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
