Sterling Walbert Obituary

Sterling Jewell Walbert Jr. "Jay" of Barclay, MD passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. He was 74 .

Jay was born September 22, 1950 in Easton, MD the son of the late Sterling Walbert Sr. and Helen Lorain "Sparks". He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served his country in the Vietnam War. In addition to his Marine Corp service, he spent 3 years in the Maryland National Guard. Jay worked at Acme Markets for 20 years and following his time with Acme he worked for Conard-Pyle Corp. developing their nursery near Centreville, MD. In 1999, he created Barclay Excavation and Landscaping where he worked until his health forced his full-time retirement. He enjoyed operating heavy equipment and did so part time later in life. Jay loved to hunt, especially waterfowl. He was a member and active participant at the Sudlersville Skeet Club where he enjoyed competing up and down the Eastern Shore. He enjoyed umpiring softball in Kent, Queen Anne's and Caroline leagues. He also enjoyed fishing, crabbing and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Walbert.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Walbert of Barclay, MD, two daughters, Jennifer Walbert of Barclay, MD, Angela "Angie" Walbert (David) of Centreville, MD, one son, Herman Weiss (Kaci) of Gatesville, NC, one brother, Jeff Walbert (Susan) of Centreville, MD, eight grandchildren, Sadie Rodgers (fiance' Jeremy), Kaitlyn Shirey (Shane), Lauren Ruby (Paul), Andrew Weiss, Savannah Weiss, Noah Main, Julianna Main, Leland Main, seven great grandchildren and one on the way, two nieces, Casey Andrews and Brooke Walbert, two nephews, Brian Walbert and Aaron Walbert and his dogs, Maddie Lee and River Mae.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 from 11am-12pm at Fellows Family Funeral Home 370 Cypress St. Millington, MD 21651. Services will begin at 12 noon. Interment will follow the service at Sudlersville Cemetery.
