Kendra Lynne Barrett

July 23, 1988 - July 24, 2024

Kendra Barrett, 36, passed away Wednesday, July 24th, 2024 in her home town of Culpeper surrounded by friends. Born in Texas, she grew up in Pensacola, Florida and Denver, Colorado. Kendra lived in Virginia the past 11 years, first in Fairfax County and relocating to Culpeper in 2018.

Kendra earned an Associate's degree in early childhood development which she used in her roles as a Culpeper County school bus driver, private nanny, and early childhood educator. She had a great love of horse-riding which she shared with her daughter and closest friends.. Kendra was a gifted artist, the walls of her house reflected that; and she loved to bake.

Kendra displayed enormous courage and strength the past year in her successful fight against breast cancer, "ringing the bell" just two weeks ago.

Kendra was preceded in death by her daughter Karly, her father David Singleton and her father-in-law, Robert Barrett. She is survived by her husband Jesse Barrett, daughter Aspen Barrett, stepson Adam Barrett, mother Kathleen Singleton and sister Kimberly Southwood and many other loving relatives who miss her.

Memorial services are planned for August 17 with details to be announced.

Kendra was my son´s bus driver for several years, and was amazing at her job. She was so kind and attentive to all of the children and also us parents. I would sometimes run into her in the grocery store or around the neighborhood and she was always a joy to speak with. I know having her and her young daughter on the bus made my son feel so comfortable, and it was apparent that she was a wonderful mother. I am so sorry to hear of her passing and I will keep her family in my prayers.

Kendra was a mentor to me as I am also fighting breast cancer. I had met her briefly at the UVA Cancer center. I was just beginning my treatments and I was terrified. Two Weeks Later I was just getting ready to pull out of the Walmart parking lot to go to Charlottesville for another biopsy when she
coincidentally pulled in next to me. She remembered my name and we spoke for just a couple of brief minutes. She said to me "This is a God meeting Michelle. Let's exchange phone numbers. I want you to know I'm here for you." she was such a kind and generous person and helped me so much with questions and concerns and worries. She was always so reassuring. The world was definitely a better place with her in it and I definitely will miss her. I will continue praying for her husband and family for comfort.

Kendra was my bus driver during my middle school years and often brought her daughter, Aspen, on the bus with her. Throughout the years I began to talk more and more with the two of them during daily bus rides to the point where Kendra had asked me babysit her a few times. I always saw it as such an honor that such an amazing woman, who cared so much about all her bus riders, trusted me enough to help with childcare. She will always stand as great example for what any kind of care taker should aim to be, but they would all fail as she was the BEST. My greatest condolences.

Heartbroken. I just saw Kendra the week before she passed and we made plans to hang out. I´m still in shock but so grateful to have known such a sweet spirit. She was always willing to help and genuinely cared! Aspen, I remember when you were much younger & a little thing on your mommy´s bus. I fondly remember how much she loved you and her family. Praying for comfort during this difficult time.

I live across the road from Kendra and she was one of the first neighbors I meet in 2018. She was the sweetest person and was walking her little girl. I am so sorry for your loss. God Bless her family and loved ones!!
