Mrs. Mariedith Collier Yonts, 83, of Orange, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 17, 2022, surrounded by her loving children. She was born on September 27, 1938, in Kona, Kentucky, to the late William and Mora Collier.

Mariedith (Rita) was married to Kermit C. Yonts on July 31, 1955. They were married over 65 years. He always referred to her as his Miss America.

Rita was an exceptional wife and mother. Her life revolved around her family. She cared deeply and was more than happy to be the mainstay in all their lives; she was the heart and soul of the family. Anyone who knew her knew she lived for her husband, children and grandchildren. She had such a quiet, peaceful and gentle nature that it was always nice to be near her and absorb some of that calmness.

Rita was an active member of the Culpeper Church of God and worked with the Ladies auxiliary. She loved singing for the Lord and hearing her husband preach the word of God at their church. You could always find her singing hymns while going about her day.

Rita is survived by her daughter, Martha (Linda) Daniels; son, Kermit Lee and wife, Joyce; daughter, Maria Stallard and husband, Greg; sons, Ronnie, Wesley and Brian; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.

Rita was preceded in death by her father, William "Bill"; mother, Mora; husband, Kermit; sons, Mack Edward "Eddie" and David; son-in-law, Terry Daniels, and brothers and sisters.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 31440 Constitution Hwy., Locust Grove, VA 22508. The viewing will immediately precede the service starting at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Yonts Family Cemetery, 21404 Lahore Rd, Orange, VA 22960.
