WILLIAM WEAVER Obituary

DR. WILLIAM "BILL" JACKSON WEAVER, MD Dr. William "Bill" Jackson Weaver MD (99), or "Doc" as he was affectionately known by his family, friends, and community, passed away Monday, October 28, 2024, surrounded by his family. Dr. Weaver was born April 28, 1925, in Maynard, AR, to the late Ralph and Marguerite Weaver. As a teenager, he met the love of his life, Winnie Smith, and they admittedly fell in love at first sight. Dr. Weaver served in WWII in the Pacific theater with the U.S. Coast Guard, and married Winnie shortly after his return from service on June 23, 1946. He completed college and graduated from medical school in 1952 prior to joining his first medical practice in Hampton, AR. It wasn't long before he was introduced to the town (and the great quail hunting) of Eudora, AR, where he and Winnie built and ran a medical clinic for over 35 years. Dr. Weaver was an avid fisherman, hunter, and woodcarver, as well as a devoted community member. His friendly and funny nature earned him many opportunities to enjoy life. In addition to being the local doctor for the Eudora community and surrounding areas, (where he impressively delivered over 435 children!), he also served on the Board of Directors for the Eudora Bank for 20 years. When he retired, he and Winnie moved to Lake Village, AR, where he was determined to build the cabin, fishing dock, and garden of their dreams. The lakeside dock known as "Doc's Dock" became a source of enormous joy for his grandchildren and many more fellow fishermen. The catfish, however, weren't as amused. Some of his greatest joys were being outdoorshe loved hunting and fishing on the Mississippi River. He spent many weeks out of the year hunting deer, quail, turkey, pheasant, and also enjoyed big game hunting in several northern states, as well as Canada and Africa. His trophy room was to be admired! Even after traveling the world, he'd return season after season to his favorite hunting spot known as Big Island. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 71 years, Winnie, their infant daughter, Debra Lynn, and many beloved family and friends. He is celebrated here on earth by his children, Jackie Nelson (Rusty), Michael Weaver (Becky), and his 5 grandchildren, who will forever remember their "Doc Doc," Eric Nelson (Jessica), Natalie Burr (Jerry), Molly Moore (Nick), Selena Johnson (Sam), and Jackson Weaver (Annie), plus his great grandchildren, Elissa, Zachary, Audree, Matthew, and Beckett. Dr. Weaver's family and friends will have a graveside service in Maynard, AR, on Friday, November 1, at 1:00pm at the Maynard Cemetery; and a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 23, at 11:00am at Smith Family Funeral Home in Little Rock (8801 Knoedl Ct., Little Rock, AR). In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Maynard Cemetery Association (Maynard, Arkansas) or the Eudora Baptist Church (Eudora, Arkansas).
