Barbara Howell Obituary

Barbara Ellen Howell, 59, of Starkville, Mississippi, passed away after a prolonged illness on August 13, 2025, at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. She was born on September 23, 1965, in Starkville to Richard Howell and Grace Howell.

She is survived by her mother, Grace Howell; sister, Renee (Howell) Clarke, brother, Dennis Howell, and his wife Lara; nieces, Crystal Craven (Josh), Rickale Cofer (Mark), Carmen Howell, and Chasity Traylor (Will); great-nieces, Crystin Craven, Rayn Naugle, and Mattie Howell; great-nephews, Nehemiah Cofer, Noah Cofer, and Hyland Traylor. All were cherished in her heart. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and her very special friend, Audie Hughes.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Richard Howell, and her beloved nephew, Matthew Howell, her grandparents, Gordon and Louise Howell, and William and Elba Blanton.

Barbara was a woman of kindness, integrity, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She was raised in Starkville, where she attended local schools, and later became a dedicated and hardworking individual who brought warmth to everyone she met.

One of the many things Barbara was known for was her creative ability to give everyone in her life a special nickname. Whether it was a playful moniker for a close friend or a unique title for a family member. Barbara's love of fun and humor has always shone through in the way she connected with those around her. Her thoughtful and witty names will remain fondly in the hearts of her loved ones.

While Barbara did not have children of her own, she was a guiding light to the many young people in her life, always ready with advice, a listening ear, or a helping hand. Her nurturing spirit and infectious laughter made her a beloved figure in her family and community.

Services for Barbara will be held at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1pm for family and open visitation will be 1 to 2 pm. Chapel service will follow at Welch Funeral Home Chapel at 2 pm. No graveside service as private burial will be done later.

In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to your favorite charity in her honor. St. Jude’s is one that Barbara supported.

Her family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the love and support they've received from family and friends during this difficult time. Barbara's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

"Her kindness and humor will be remembered, and her love will never be forgotten."

Dear Grace, just read about your daughter and am so sorry. Having lost a
child I have feelings for others who have also. I pray for God to comfort you as only He can. I have memories of you and your mom from many years ago. Love and God bless.
