"SONNY" GAINEY, JR.

OAK ISLAND -- Mr. A.H. "Sonny" Gainey, Jr., age 81 of Oak Island died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Gainey was born in New Hanover County on February 26, 1931, son of the late A. H. Gainey, Sr. and Nancy Kathleen King Gainey. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Gainey attended Wake Forest University where he earned his law degree and for 37 years was a partner in the Law Firm of Frink, Foy, Gainey, and Yount .

Survivors include 6 children, Steve Gainey, Brett Gainey and wife Rebecca , Suzanne Glasgow and husband Reverend James Glasgow , Jennifer Harper , Rebecca Bradshaw and husband Greg , Marcus Gainey and wife Tabitha ; three brothers, Ernest Gainey and wife Shirley , Kevin Gainey and wife Deborah , Trent Gainey ; three sisters, Daisy Godwin and husband Donald , Patricia Gregory , Sylvia "Joby" Jackson ; 24 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 3-5 pm at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service, 1411 N. Howe Street, Southport, North Carolina and other times at the home of Rebecca Bradshaw, 9691 Sturgeon Dr., Leland.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2pm on Monday, January 21, 2013 at First Baptist Church, Village Road, Leland with Reverend Chris Hall and Reverend James Glasgow officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be E.G. Dale, Dr. Peter D. Almirall, Frank McDaniel, Edgar A. Muncy, Harold Lee, Henry Foy, Steve Yount, John D. Jones, Dr. Sam Sue, Jr., Jeffrey A. Crouch, Morris V. Crouch, Alfred Bellamy, Art Skipper, Joe Manning, Mike Clemmons, George Sturm, and Luke Appling.

Honorary pallbearers in memorium include the late Fred W. Groves, Thomas S. Bowmer, Marvin T. Watson, Gibson V. Barbee, Jr., and Jarvis Jones, Jr.

Memorial contributions may be made SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422.
