David Jennings Obituary

DAVID JENNINGS

David Parker Jennings, age 40, of Wilmington, NC passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 in Wilmington, NC. Born July 13, 1970 in Lumberton, NC, David was the son of Jane Troutman Jennings Getsinger and the late James Albert Jennings, and the brother of Abigail Jennings Lewis and Michael Jennings.

David graduated from Bandy's High School in Catawba, NC in 1988 and graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1992. He was a member of the international psychology honor society, Psi Chi.

Following a passion for surfing, David resided in Kauai, Hawaii, but eventually returned to the Atlantic waves of Wrightsville Beach where he built a successful career working for Prudential Carolinas Real Estate. Most recently he worked in landscaping, a vocation which allowed him to be close to the natural world he loved so much. David also loved animals and was devoted to his two cats, Vic and The Count.

David is survived by his mother Jane and step-father Layton Getsinger; sister Abigail and her husband Randolph Lewis and children Genevieve and Ia Lewis; brother Michael and his wife Robin Scholle Jennings; paternal grandfather Albert Lee (Buck) Jennings; maternal grandmother Armonde Troutman; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who all loved him dearly.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Statesville, NC on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 2:00. The family will receive friends at the home of Jane Getsinger, 315 E. Mombo Road, Statesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1103, Statesville, NC, 28677; or Fifth Street Ministries, P.O. Box 5217, Statesville, NC, 28677.

Not sure what to say?

March 23, 2011

To Friends who have have offered condolences....thank you. This is the hardest loss I have ever experienced and really not quite sure what the future holds. I am diminished by David's death beyond words. He struggled more than any of us knew for his short time on this earth. He was so much like his Father with his twinkling eyes and ability to "hold court". I had a wonderful last day with him Monday a month ago. He seemed "teasing" about making the decision to come home and allow Layton and I to help him "regroup". I talked to him two hours before he died....so we were really continuing to hope and pray for a miracle....it did not happen. Again, thank you for your support. I will not be further checking this site.

Jane, Michael and Abigail ~
My heart aches for your family with this sudden loss of such a wonderful person. I will always remember David as my neighbor, friend, fellow UNCW student and he will hold a special place in my heart. His heart was as big as his passion for the outdoors. Your family will be in my prayers and thoughts.

My condolences to his family, I knew Dave from Wilmington years ago. He was always a happy fun easygoing guy. Years ago we went with friends on a snowboarding trip to the NC mountains. I'm saddened to hear of this tragic ending, and will pray for his family during this difficult time.

Dear Family of David Jennings,
When David first started selling real estate, he visited our home which was for sale by owner. He was so polite, and earnest in his request to list our home, that we couldn't resist. I watched over time as he became a successful realtor in Wilmington. I know that you were very proud of him.
I'm so sorry to hear that he has passed away, and wish you peace and healing in the days ahead.
