David Mullaney Obituary

DAVID DUNN MULLANEY It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of David Dunn Mullaney, loving father, brother and friend, on January 10, 2021 at the age of 55 years. David grew up in Duxbury, Massachusetts and graduated from Duxbury High School followed by Northfield Mount Hermon and University of Richmond, later settling back in Boston where he met Elise (nee Humphries), the mother of his children. They eventually moved and made their home in Wilmington, NC after living in Boston, Pittsburgh and Alexandria, VA. David had a huge personality and loved people. He always had a joke, a funny story or some other way of making people laugh and have fun. He loved sports, being a champion athlete growing up, and could always be counted on to cheer on his beloved Patriots. He had a tremendous influence on many people's lives and as one family member put it he was a "force of nature". Whether it was leading the crowd, coaching his son's sport teams, providing many people their livelihood as an entrepreneur or receiving the Massachusetts Governors award for saving a woman's life, David was always large and in charge. However his proudest accomplishment is his children whom he cherished above all else. David was preceded in death by his father Tom, his mother Midge, his brother Tommy and his sister Terry. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Taylor, son David Jr., his brothers Scott (Angie), Steven and John (Maggie), his brother by love Regis (Nina) Dean, his Auntie Scilla who he considered his second Mum, his step-mother Lori and his aunts, uncles, niece and nephews, cousins and many more extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the following fund on behalf of David's children https://www.gofundme.com/f/david-mullaney-memorial-and-scholarship-fund?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1 A Celebration of David's life will be announced at a future date.

Dear Taylor & David, I just recently learned of your dad’s death and wanted to send my deepest sympathy. My name is Lisa Treganowen Reynolds and I got to know David in middle school in Duxbury when we went on a trip to Italy that was organized through our Latin class. There were three of us from Duxbury joining a group that were traveling out of New York. Instead of flying out of Boston to connect my dad drove us to New York to meet up with the group - my family still laughs about how David talked non-stop the whole way to New York. We became buddies on that trip and were friends throughout high school. We used to talk on the phone for hours, always laughing and joking around. In addition to being fun to hang out with David was intelligent and empathetic and such a good friend.
It’s been years since we’ve been in touch but I wanted you to know some of his old friends from Duxbury are thinking of you all and remembering your dad with love.

I was stunned and deeply saddened to hear the news of David's passing. He was a great friend, business associate, and a confident. I will miss our talks about life in general and the ability to pick up the phone to call him about anything. Taylor and David Jr I know he loved you dearly and he wanted the best for you. My prayers are with father and for you both.

I was stunned and deeply saddened when I received the notification of David’s passing. I was fortunate to be virtually a life long close friend of the Mullaney family. I was fortunate enough to be David’s football coach from age 9 through his senior year. Tremendous person, athlete, and personality. He loved his family beyond discrlption. No one ever had a bad word for David. He was truly special, and will be deeply missed.

I just read the terrible news regarding David. David and I were best friends in high school. Unfortunately we lost touch over the years. I have countless fond memories of David, many of which I can’t post on this medium. David was an amazing athlete on the gridiron and even a better athlete on the track. Please know that David’s family are in my thoughts and prayers. With deepest sympathy, Bob Murphy.
