EGBERT L. NUNN III obituary

EGBERT NUNN Obituary

On Thursday afternoon, March 7, 2013, Lannie went home peacefully to be with the Lord after a gallant battle against cancer. Lannie was born in Kinston, N.C., on April 16, 1952, to E. L. and Margaret Nunn. They later moved to Wilmington where Lannie grew up and attended public schools. Lannie retired from DuPont in 1998 and was employed part-time as a handyman. He met many great friends throughout his careers. He loved fishing and being outdoors. Lannie's blessing was "let us be ever mindful of the needs of others", and he lived his life accordingly. He always put the needs of others first. Even at death, Lannie had others in mind as he donated his corneas to the North Carolina Eye Bank.

Lannie was preceded in death by his sister, Melinda Nunn. Surviving are his wife, Gail; his parents, E. L. and Margaret Nunn; his brother, Scott Nunn (Cece); his daughters, Leigh Nunn and Lori Johnson (Joe); his son Brian Norris (Karla); and six precious grandchildren (Parker Legwin and Presleigh Sullivan, Allen and Gabby Johnson, Anna and Tyler Norris). He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Kelly High; a nephew, Matt Hinson; and nieces, Isabelle and Flannery Nunn. He leaves behind his little Shih Tzu, Molly, who stayed by his side throughout his sickness.

A memorial service will be held at Church of the Good Shepherd, 515 Queen Street, Wilmington, N.C., on Monday, March 11, 2013, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Catherine Powell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church parish hall. The family requests no flowers. In memory of Lannie, contributions may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1406 Physician's Drive, Wilmington, N.C., or to one's favorite charity.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Kotz, Nurse Susan, and all the staff at Cape Fear Cancer Specialists for their dedication in helping Lannie fight cancer.

We are so blessed and thankful for the time God allowed us to have with Lannie. He will be deeply missed.

I waited patiently for the Lord. He turned to me and heard my cry. Psalm 40:1

Mr. E.L. & Mrs. Margaret. My heart breaks for you as you yet again suffer the loss of a child. Lannie was a true pleasure to know. I recall meeting him about 40 years ago. Those of us that were together then had more fun than should have been allowed. Lannie always made us laugh! We lost touch over the years but he always held a very special place in my heart; I have lost a long time friend. God bless all of you during this time of grief. My prayers are for you.
