Gretchen Teachey Obituary

MRS. GRETCHEN FUSSELL TEACHEY

Mrs. Gretchen Fussell Teachey age 70 of 411 Second Street, Wallace died December 14, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Teachey was born in Randolph County, on February 3, 1938, to the late Thomas Edmond and Helen Parker Fussell.

After graduating from Rose Hill High School in 1956 and attending Louisburg College, Gretchen married Louis Teachey of Wallace and soon became Mama to five children. She touched the lives of many young children during her 27 years as a Teacher's assistant at Wallace Elementary School. Young children and teenagers always held a special place in her heart and she found much joy in teaching Youth in Sunday School at First Baptist Church in Wallace. Gretchen enjoyed her years of involvement with the Wallace Women's Club and spending time with her girlfriends playing Bridge. She was a wonderful cook and avid fan of the North Carolina Tar heels Basketball team. She was a very creative and gifted person. She wrote beautiful poetry and understood intuitively the needs of others. Gretchen lived a sacrificial life and her loss is felt by so many but her seeds of love will live on.

Mrs. Teachey is survived by her five children, Robin Todd (Mike) of Lillington, NC; Mark Teachey (Terrie) of Wilmington, NC; Cristy Thompson (John) of Wallace, NC; Daye Davis (Clayton) of Wallace, NC; Kelly Nash (Robert) of Wilmington, NC; 16 grandchildren, Aaron (Julie) and Jordan Todd, Laura Beth (Robbie), Jared and Emily Teachey, Brad, Ben and Brody Young, Brent, Erick and Julia Thompson, Clay, Blair and Luke Davis, Julianne and Matt Nash; two great-grandchildren, Caleb Todd and Bryce deBeaumont; and a brother, Tommy Fussell of Castle Hayne. Her husband of 50 years, James Louis Teachey and two brothers, Charles Fredrick Fussell and Edmond Parker Fussell, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Teachey will always be remembered as a very loving and supportive wife, mother and friend.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at First Baptist Church, Wallace, NC. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Wallace, NC.

Gretchen was one of the sweetest people I've ever met. She was easy to talk to and would always give good advice, she was very wise. She was a great mother to her children, a loving and devoted wife, and friend to all. Everytime I watch the Tarheels play I will always remember her. I'm proud to have known her and worked with her at Wallace Elementary. She will be truly missed, but there's no doubt she's in heaven watching over all of
us.

Aunt Gretchen will truly be missed. She was such a wonderful and caring person. I will miss seeing her during the summer at the beach, but I know she'll be with each and every one of us while we are there.
