May the Fergus - Funderburg Family of North Carolina express our deepest sympathy for the loss of Jimmy Lee Allen. He defended our way of life and was a prominent citizen who brought honor to our region. Jimmy was one of the first surfers in North Carolina and instrumental in shaping the local surfing community into what it is today. He was a pioneer surfer, pioneer surfing photographer, a charter member of the Wrightsville Beach Surf Club and a charter member of the Wrightsville Originals. He received the Wrightsville Originals highest honor, The Winged O in 2015.

Jeff, and family. When I moved to Wilmington is 1966 to attend Wilmington College, Jimmy became one of my first friends and got me into surfing. Some of the best times of that period I spent with Jimmy. We went lots of places in his blue van with the speaker on top. My life changed after I was drafted, but over the years when I would see Jimmy it was just like the old times. I am glad that Jimmy was a part of my life and that I am a better man by having known him. I also remember the store on the boardwalk at CB and seeing you folks there. His passing is way too soon.
