James Durnan Obituary

James David Durnan, born in Brooklyn, NY, on March 25, 1912, was the son of Margaret Reddichen and James Durnan. Formerly of Baldwin, NY, he died on January 21 at Dosher Nursing Center, Southport,N.C.
James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Catherine Snelling Durnan; his only son, James David Durnan Jr.; three brothers, Thomas, Patrick, & John; sister-in-law, Dorothy & husband George Hines; & Uncle Samuel Snelling.
After traveling extensively in his early years, James served for five years in the Merchant Marines in the second World War. Working years were spent in sales and ownership of Nassau Yacht Basin in Freeport, NY.
He is survived by his daughter, Dorothy Kyle and her husband, Robert, of Southport, N.C.; his wife Martha Magana and her son, David, of Long Island; his daughter in-law, Cynthia Durnan; four grandchildren, Patricia Romero, Jennifer Durnan, Krissy Kyle, Brian Kyle and his wife, Jamie; two great-grandchildren, Alexandra Romero and Andrew Kyle.
James will be missed by all and remembered as a unique and independent gentleman of the early 20th century.
Visiting hours will be Saturday, January 27, from 2-4 at Fullertons Funeral home, 769 Merrick Rd., Baldwin, NY.
