John Gossett Obituary

JOHN THOMAS GOSSETT John Thomas Gossett, 69, of Leland, NC, passed away on January 25, 2016 after a long hard-fought battle with Amyloidosis. John was born on September 27, 1946 in Stokes, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Naomi Gossett and survived by his wife, Carol Gossett of 40 years; their children, Kelly Hartings (Nick) and Amy Elder (Ryan); cherished grandchildren Emma and Leah Hartings; brothers Allen Gossett, Jr. (Buddy), Bobby Gossett, Ray Gossett, and Ronnie Gossett and sisters, Margaret Lindsay and Faye Marty. John served honorably in the Air Force. Early in his career he worked for Piedmont Airlines, USAIRWAYs and later retired from Northmont City School District in Englewood, OH in 2011. In 2013, John and his wife Carol moved back "home" to North Carolina. John's favorite outdoor activities were golfing, fishing, and gardening. He was also an exceptional cook and enjoyed cooking for his friends and family. John was a husband, father and grandfather of great integrity and love. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, January 29, 2016 at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd, Wilmington, NC 28412 In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Amyloidosis Foundation in John's name at https://secure.qgiv.com/for/johgosmem Condolences may be made to the family at www.andrewsmortuary.com

It's interesting that this message about remembering John, was in my email this morning, as Dan and I had just talked about him yesterday. It was snowy, school buses weren't running and we remembered that John would have made sure the students were safe. We remembered the Piedmont days and all the friends and fun we had.
