We learned of Malcolm's passing last week. Unfortunately, we lost touch when we left Qatar in 2012. Malcolm was the first person to greet us when we arrived in this amazing little country in 2006. We shared many unforgettable experiences together as friends and as colleagues at Qatar University. We were hired as "Lead Scholars" and asked to bring quality American and Canadian post-secondary education and research to Qatar. With hard work and a sometimes frenzied committment, we succeeded in establishing internationally-recognized undergraduate and post-graduate degree programs in the biological (MP) and pharmaceutical (PJ) sciences. During our tenure in Qatar, we learned a lot and laughed often. Thanks for those memories, Malcolm, I won't forget our time together. Our condolences to Ann, Emma and Sara. He spoke of you often. My father just told me about Malcom's passing on the phone. I am shocked and speechless. It was always pleasant to see you all during your visits to Tallahassee. My thoughts are with you all in this sad time.

For Ann, Sarah and Emma

Malc was clever, inspirational, determined and a loyal friend of long-standing. He was all the wonderful things that other people posting have said. Beyond that, he was also an intrepid traveller with many funny tales to delight anyone who would listen and he made friends of people from whatever race or background. His academic achievements were beyond our academic comprehension - we just loved him for the Geordie boy he always remained - just to hear his lilting voice was always a tonic - he never left his accent behind: we believe it was because he was proud of his roots.

We shall always remember the good times we had together, especially in Florida, Virginia, and the spectacular classical music concerts in England with fireworks and champagne whilst huddled under blankets to keep out the night chill.

We will miss him dearly and our thoughts go out to you. We send our deepest condolences and are thinking of you all in your loss.
Pam and Rob.

Dear Ann, Emma and Sarah

I do not really know what to say. I hold the phone hundred times but I did not know what to write. I am very sorry for this unexpected event as I can not imagine that Malcolm is no longer in our life. I had many good news to tell him but the death was faster than me. I am very regret that I was busy in my PhD during the few last months and I am afraid that he thought that I abandoned him after all his support to me. Just this month I could secure for him the position that he wished as consultant so he can spend all the time with you and the daughters. So many things he would be happy to hear but he went a way.

He always consider me as his son and friend and I feel the same toward him. He is great person kind and honest.

I wish you keep me as part of your family as he did and please let us keep in touch.

May Allah accept Dr Malcolm in his mercy for all the good deeds.

Looking forward to see you all soon

My best regards and wishes to you and the girls.

FEW YEARS AGO I WAS NOT SURE WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR . CAREER OPPUTUNITIES WERE MANY..I WAS IN A DILEMMA. IT WAS DR MALCOLM, WHO GUIDED ME THROUGH THIS, HELD MY HAND AND TOOK ME THROUGH THE TOUGH WORLD OF CHALLENGES AND COMPETITIONS. HE BELIEVED IN ME , ALWAYS ENCOURAGED ME TO HAVE FAITH IN MYSELF. DO THE BEST I COULD AND SUCCESS WILL BE MINE. TODAY I AM VERY PROUD TO HAVE REACHED WHERE I AM. I OWE ALL MY SUCCESS TO DR MALCOLM. HE JUST DID NOT BELIEVE IN ME BUT EVEN SERVED MY COUNTRY AND WORKED FOR ITS DEVELOPMENT FORSEEING THE NEED FOR BIO FUEL IN QATAR. HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO QATAR UNIVERSITY, COLLEGE OF SCIENCES, HAVE ALSO BEEN COMMEDABLE AND MUCH APPRECIATED. HE IS NOT GONE , HE WILL LIVE IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER.

I EXPRESS MY DEEP CONDOLENCES TO HIS GRIEVEING FAMILY. MAY GOD GIVE THEM STRENGTH TO LIVE WITH THIS GREAT LOSS.

Ann, My condolences to you and your family. Malcolm was my first mentor at FSU back in 1980. I remember him as focused and direct in the lab and warm and witty during afternoon discussions. An undergraduate couldn't have asked for more. Chris Bacot
