RUBY KATHRYN HAYES TOWNSEND On September 6th, 2016, the world lost one strong and feisty little lady whom her family and friends loved. Ruby Kathryn Hayes Townsend was born in Lumberton, N.C. on August 27, 1924. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Steven (Steve) Townsend, and a grandson Eugene (Little Gene) Gaskins. She is survived by her three children, Larry (Sharon) Townsend, Gene (Glenda) Townsend, and Shyrell (Jack) Gaskins. She is also survived by a host of Grandchildren, several Great-Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Miss Ruby loved her God, her family, and nature. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Leland for 60 years where she enjoyed singing in the choir, until she was unable to attend. She enjoyed outings with her family, and would always point out the beautiful creations God has given us all to enjoy. The family would like to thank the staff of Ocean Trail Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center for their care of Miss Ruby. She loved Bible study and worship, activities, and visiting the other patients. She was rarely in her room. We are especially thankful for the care and hospitality over the past several weeks to her and the family. The family will receive friends graveside at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, September 8, 2016, and a graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Barbara Bell officiating.
