William Anderson Obituary

WILLIAM FILMORE "FLO" ANDERSON William Filmore "Flo" Anderson passed peacefully from this world into his eternal home in heaven on Friday, September 26, 2014. To cherish his memory, Flo leaves his beloved and devoted wife of 68 years, Hazeline Edwards Anderson. He was born on May 28, 1929 in Goldsboro, NC, the son of Walter William and Anniebell Vanderberg Anderson. Following a career in retail grocery management he retired from Colonial Stores, Inc. and was owner of Tiny World Children's Store from 1972-2000. He was a Sunday School teacher, deacon and faithful member of Winter Park Baptist Church and Joe Pettus Sunday School Class. He was a member of St. John's Lodge #1 A.F. & A.M., a Shriner, and a former member of the Wilmington Optimist Club. He enjoyed his summer home at Wrightsville Beach and gardening, yet more than anything, he loved Jesus, his wife, family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children; Linda Anderson MacCallum and husband David of Castle Hayne, NC; Fil Anderson and wife Lucie of Greensboro, NC; Steve Anderson and wife Buffy of Wilmington, NC; Susan Anderson of Greensboro, NC; seven grandchildren, Lisa MacCallum Buie and husband Bill, David MacCallum and wife Misty, Meredith Anderson Miller and husband Gabe, Will Anderson and wife Lauren, and Lee Anderson, John and Parker Anderson; four great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Alex Buie and David and Dalton MacCallum; a brother Walter Ray Anderson and wife June, a sister-in-law Celia Edwards Yarborough and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at 10:00 AM, followed at 11:00 AM by a celebration of life service, both at Winter Park Baptist Church. Burial will be at Oleander Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Winter Park Baptist Church, 4700 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington, NC 28403. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of The Kempton at Brightmore, Dr. Ellis Tinsley Jr., Dr. Charles Neal, Dr. Mary Rudyk, and Dr. Boyan Georgiev for their extraordinary care and support. Flo was a generous and kindhearted man, devoted to those he loved. His playfulness and sense of humor enriched the lives of those who knew and loved him. I can't believe it was about 1958 that I first met Mr. flo in BTU at Winter Park. Those were my high school years and he was my idol and I thought when I get married I want someone just like him...Guess I had a little high school crush but he never made fun of anything we "teens" did and was always there for us....my prayers are with the family ....he was a good man and an awesome training union teacher -

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the Anderson family. Years ago, when I worked at A&G Sportswear, he would stop in and talk. When I saw him grocery shopping, he would stop to chat with me. His passing will leave a void in this community and the hearts of his friends and family.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Anderson's passing. He will be remembered by me and my wife Sylvia as a Godly , kind and fun person. As teens growing up in the Youth Group at Winter Park Baptist in the late 60's the Anderson's were a blessing then and since then as well. Love & Prayers to Mrs. Hazel and to all the family

Flo will be missed by many friends at Ashley Park. He served many years on the HOA Board and was instrumental in making many improvements and creating a bond between the HOA and residents in Ashley Park. He was a loyal friend, father and son who Mike and I admired very much. Thank you to Hazel for sharing him with us.
