WILLIAM SHERWOOD HEWETT & NANCY (PRIDGEN) POWELL William Sherwood Hewett, age 75, entered the gates of heaven, Friday, July 17,2015 in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was a long time resident of Wilmington, NC. He was born February 24, 1940 in Southport, NC to Charlie and Fairland Hewett who preceded him in Heaven along with his 4 legged children, Sparky and Crystal. He was the greatest Husband, Father and Papa! He is survived by his Loving wife of 54 years Linda Pridgen Hewett, three sons Woody and (fiance Kathleen), Greg and (wife Connie), Wes and (wife Heidi and Papa's little rays of sunshine Elise, Evan, and Carson). Two sisters, Irene Bass and Mary Atkinson, and two special friends, Harold Grice and Alton Sullivan. He graduated in 1958 from Acme - Delco H.S as Salutatorian and joined the U.S Coast Guard Reserves. He went to work at NC Equipment Co. in 1960 and retired as Shop manager 42 years later. After retiring to Florida in 2002, he became a real estate agent. He enjoyed playing golf and family gatherings; oyster roast were his favorite. Dirt track racing in the 60's to 80's where he was a well liked and respected racer known as "W.S Hewett" driving the Lt Blue #56 '61 Impala Late model and later the #70 '68 Mickey Mouse Camaro. Nancy (Pridgen) Powell, 69, died on July 27, 2015 in Wilmington NC. Nancy was born May 19, 1946 to Cleo and Myrtle Pridgen. Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, James, mom, dad and sister, Barbara Johnston. Nancy is survived by her children, Lorie and husband, Douglas Barnhill, Buddy and wife, April, Frankie Davis and Bryan Powell. Her grandchildren, Emily, Dora and husband, Ryan, Lorie, Caylee, Bryan Jr, Charity, Jordan and great grandson, Nicholas. Also a sister, Linda Hewett, and brothers, Jimmy, Joe and wife, Agnes. A memorial service for Sherwood and Nancy will be held on August 15, 2015 at 4pm. Sunset Park Baptist Church. 231 Central Blvd. Wilmington, NC 28401. We will have a cover dish supper for Sherwood and Nancy. Please join us and if possible bring a cover dish. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Sunset Park Baptist Church.

i have known mr sherwood since 1973 . i watched him race at leland speed way. i also would see him from time to time at n c equipment co .( great guy ) p s i am looking to contact his sister as she might have a picture of the Joseph Hewett grave yard at Holden beach of whom we are all descended from 910 209 3267 would you please pass this on to her sincerely reggie hewett
