Aileen Ables

1920 - 2017

ABLES (McKerall), Aileen Aileen McKerall Ables died peacefully in her sleep on July 13, 2017, of natural causes. Born in Waco, Texas, on June 24, 1920, to William F. and Neva McKerall. A graduate of Waco High in 1939, she eventually settled in Angleton, Texas, and owned and operated one of the famed "Chicken Shacks" that her father built throughout Texas in the 40's. With two children from a previous marriage she finally met the true love of her life, Warren Ables, and they were married on May 5, 1950. Together they had two more sons as she continued in the food business eventually owning the restaurant at the Brazoria County Courthouse. She was also an accomplished seamstress, became a Realtor at age 50 and was always a full-time referee, coach, counselor and wonderful mother to her beloved sons. After locating to Houston in the 1970's, she took a management position with Saks Fifth Avenue and retired from the company in 1984. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Louise McKerall Busby and oldest son Don Piper. Her survivors include husband Warren of Austin TX, children, James Piper of Houston TX, Douglas "Tommy" Ables and wife Linda of Olathe KS, Joseph Ables and wife Judy of Austin TX, ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. The family would like to express appreciation to Mary and her fine staff at Cella Bella's Senior Services for the excellent care they gave her in the last several months.
