Bobby STANLEY Obituary

STANLEY, Bobby Joe
Bobby Joe Stanley went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 4, 2017. In his 75 years, he was a tremendous blessing to those of us who knew him and loved him.
Bob was born on April 30, 1941 in Dublin, Texas to Wilbur and Mary (Wells) Stanley. While still a young boy, Bob moved to Spur, Texas, where he spent his impressionable years growing up on the hardscrabble land of west Texas with his sister and three brothers. After graduating from Spur High School in 1960, Bob served his country as an Airman in the Air Force. After the Air Force, he applied his newly acquired computer skills and knowledge to forge a 37-year career with Sperry Univac and Dell Computers, including more than a decade at NASA where he was computer support for the manned spaceflight program from 1966 until 1977.
In 1976, Bob married Kris (Hengst) in Clear Lake, Texas. They were happily married for 40 years. In 1985, Bob, Kris and their children, Mary and Ryan, were among the first families who planted Hill Country Bible Church in northwest Austin, attending before the first public services began in 1986.
Bob was passionate about his faith, his family and the open road. Over the years, Bob and Kris travelled thousands of miles along the highways and by-ways of North America, managing to visit all 50 states, at least once, and 39 of the 59 National Parks. Always interested in people and their stories, Bob acquired a deep appreciation for his fellowman that grew throughout the many years and the many miles, travelling the backroads of this country, with Kris by his side.
To the end of his days, he possessed a genuine sense of awe for life's gifts. Whether it was teaching one of his grandchildren to ride a bike, finding an arrowhead along a dried-out gully or meeting a person for the first time; Bob's life reflected well on leaving a legacy of kindness while living life as an adventure in a rich, rewarding way. In short, to know Bob was to love Bob.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Mary; and his brother, Billy. Bob was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Ryan.
He is survived by his wife, Kris; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Blake Magee; grandchildren, Aiden, Gracen, Grier, Evan, Ellis, Jude and Locke; his siblings, Kathy, Walter and Weldon; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family members and friends.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, March 17, at Hill Country Bible Church Lakeline, 12124 Ranch Road 620, Austin, 78750 with reception following. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Bob's name to Hospice Austin's Christopher House, 2820 East Martin Luther King Blvd, Austin, TX 78702.

Served all 4 years USAF with Bobby. Tried to find him since 1972. He worked for my partners neighbor (Dell) and I didn't know it. Went to school in Phoenix at GE also. Loved him like a brother. Wish I could have found him and kept in touch.

I served 4 years in the Air Force with Bobby. Every time one of us would get transferred, the other would get the same orders no more than a week apart.

We were in San Antonio, Biloxi Misissippi (Keesler FB) and McGuire AFB Until our discharge.

My wife cried when I finally found his passing after over 50 years of looking. I knew he lived in Spur and Post Tx when young and the one time I accidently met him again at Dealey Plaza in 1967 or 68. I lost track of him afterwards.

Bobby had been at our house in Browns Mills New Jersey many times for dinner and playing card games.

It hurts terribly to hear I'll never be able to see him again especially after finally finding him.

An Ironic thing is he worked for the man who started Dell computers and my partners brother lived next door to Dell and helped him assemble computers to sell at swap meets when first starting out.

I would have given anything to have been able to just talk to him one more time. He was one of the finest men I ever knew and I have so many great memories.

GOD bless his family.

I was blessed to have had the opportunity to meet and work with Bobby over the past year or so. Bob was a quality type person, that left his mark on you from the time you met him. I will forever remember Bobby and extend my heart felt condolences to Kris and family. Bobby relied on his faith to provide a path in life , and I have no doubt he continues to share his love for family and the Lord. Heaven has gained Gained a person that has moved into the starting Lineup in his New Home.

God Bless the Stanley family, and Bobby has reunited with family.

I joined the Bayswater Gardens Family in 1992. In 2009 a chocolate lab mix, July Johnson came to live with me as a puppy. We walk, along with July's cousin, passed Bob's house 5 to 6 days a week, at least, health and weather permitting. Bob almost always had his garage door open as he was forever active, working his yard, adjusting his bicycle, making furniture for his grandchildren, remodeling or painting for Kris. When July sees Bob, he pulls on his leash until I unhook him, then he bounds over like a 70 pound puppy and bounces around Bob to get his attention. "Hey July!", and oh July is happy then. July is an excellent judge of character and he liked Bob, a lot. July knows that Bob Stanley is just simply put, a good man. July will miss Bob Stanley.

I feel like I knew Bobby Joe from hearing such wonderful things about him from your friends and neighbors, Belinda and Russell. There is no doubt he will be missed; however, pleasant memories will live on forever. And, on behalf of Hospice Austin Christopher House, we would like to thank you for mentioning us in his obituary. It was an honor for us to care for him in his final days. May God bless you and your family with His faith, hope, and love. Joe & Camille

Kris & Mary - When Debbie & Gloria informed me last weekend about the passing of Bobby, I was so surprised because I did not know about his cancer. Bobby was a super guy, husband, dad, friend, and neighbor. My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to you and your extended families. Bobby will be greatly missed and now gets to be reunited with Ryan in heaven. God Rest His Soul.
