Carolyn Evans Obituary

Carolyn Dean Johnson Evans, 85 passed away on May 10, 2025. She was born December 28, 1939 in Gonzales, Louisiana to Elva and Surward Johnson.

Carolyn is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Charles William Evans, and her three children: Dean William Evans (Carla), Dr. Daren William Evans, David William Evans (Jane), grandchildren: Charles William Evans III (Cecilia), John William Evans, George William Evans, Allison Mae Evans, Daren William Evans, Jr. and great-grandchild Mary Jane Evans. She is also survived by her siblings Karen Johnson Adams (Robert) and David Johnson (Christi) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Elva and Surward Johnson and brother Ray Johnson.

Gonzales, Louisiana is a small community outside of Baton Rouge. Carolyn was a happy child and the apple of her father's eye. She had fond memories of growing up in rural Louisiana and eating strawberries straight from her grandfather's farm. At the age of 4 she met her future husband Charlie Evans and would later marry him on June 6, 1960. As a teenager her family moved to Houston, TX, where Carolyn was a cheerleader and graduate of Bellaire High School. After high school she attended The University of Texas at Austin but would return to her home in Louisiana to earn her degree in education from Louisiana State University. At that point she rekindled her relationship with Charlie.

After a short career as an elementary school teacher while working Charlie through dental school, she devoted her life to rearing her children and supporting her husband as manager of his dental office. Carolyn was an excellent cook and hostess. She made her home a comforting place to be. She was a kind woman and opened her home to anyone in need. It was not uncommon to find someone in need living in her home. If anything could define Carolyn Evans as a person, it was her faith and her love for Jesus. She knew the importance of reading the Bible and did so every day. She was an avid prayer warrior. If she knew your name, she would have prayed for you. It is difficult to compress 85 years of life into a few sentences, but know this, you are a better person for knowing Carolyn Dean Evans.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family later. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
