Catherine Goodzey Obituary

GOODZEY
CATHERINE JOAN
Catherine Joan Goodzey, 48, passed on Tuesday, December 5, 2006, peacefully at home. Born May 19, 1958, she was the daughter of Betty and John Goodzey of Illinois. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.A. in anthropology and an M.A. in library science. She married Roy E. Roper in Champaign, Illinois, June 18, 1982. She traveled widely for her work in environmental policy and protection, co-authored a number of academic articles in anthropology, and was on the editorial staff of the Journal of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. She established a consultancy in anthropology, Cultural Integrity, with her husband. She recently founded a Pittsburgh chapter of the National Marfan's Foundation to help support and educate others with Marfan syndrome. She was a volunteer for the Cranberry Public Library and helped in the establishment of the library's Friends group. She was also a volunteer with the American Red Cross. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Roy E. Roper of Cranberry, PA, her mother Betty Goodzey (Illinois), her sister Margaret (Robert) Land (Illinois), and two brothers, John (Cheryl) Goodzey (New York) and Gregory (Kelly) Goodzey (Indiana), and their families: Meghan, Molly and Alison Goodzey, Elizabeth Land, and Eric, Brian, Leann and Grace Goodzey. A Memorial Mass will be held in Sycamore, Illinois on December 28, 2006. Memorial fund contributions go to the National Marfan Foundation, 22 Manhassett Avenue, Port Washington, NY 11050 in c/o Catherine Joan Goodzey. Arrangements made by DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME of Cranberry.
