Charlotte Helberg Obituary

Charlotte Ann Mooney Helberg, a devoted mother, respected professional, and cherished member of the Austin community, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, in Austin, Texas. She was 81 years old.

Born on March 25, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, Charlotte lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and quiet strength. A lifelong Texan, she made her home in Austin, where she built a meaningful career with Austin Independent School District. She retired as the Lead Secretary for Special Education, where she played a vital role in supporting students, families, and educators. Her warmth, organizational talent, and steadfast commitment touched countless lives and left a lasting impact on the community she served.

Charlotte's greatest joy was her family, and she leaves behind a legacy of deep love and connection. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Martha Ann Williams and Gayle Elizabeth Helberg, and son-in-law Walter V. Williams, all of Austin. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Vivian Elizabeth Williams and Charlotte Ann Williams. Charlotte is also survived by her cherished sisters, Maureen Mooney Jenkins of Austin and Patricia Mooney Marlowe and her husband Rudd Marlowe of Tyler. She will be fondly remembered by her beloved niece and nephews: Meghan Marlowe Berg of Dallas, Nicholas Rudd Marlowe of Dallas, and John H. Jenkins of Austin.

Charlotte was an animal lover and found great joy in the companionship of pets throughout her life. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, and spending time with friends and family activities that reflected her nurturing spirit and deep appreciation for meaningful connection. She was active in her neighborhood homeowners association and enjoyed playing bunco with the same close-knit group of friends for over 20 years. In retirement, Charlotte embraced her love of travel, often exploring new places and creating lasting memories with her dear friends.

Charlotte will be remembered not only for her professional contributions but for the way she lived with kindness, integrity, and a quiet grace. She was clever, sharp-witted, and creative, always ready with thoughtful advice and never without a sense of humor. Known affectionately as the family's go-to "doctor" on Google, Charlotte had a knack for researching anything and everything. She was also, quite simply, beautiful inside and out.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

I loved Charlotte Helberg! We met at Langford Elementary. She was always so calm, warm and nurturing, but her smile, her humor, her ability to make me laugh when I wanted to cry made her such an anchor of a colleague and friend. I loved and respected her brilliance and quick ability to problem solve….as she would roll her eyes and make me chuckle; knowing everything was going to be fine. It was an honor to call her friend in this life! ??

Charlotte was my only Aunt, and the mother to my only two cousins. I knew her best when I was a young child. She was both soft in a lovingly feminine way, and outspoken with her views of how the world (and those of us in it) should behave. I have fond memories of summertime in Austin. It was at times banal and ordinary, but comforting. It was also fascinating and full of adventure, breaking the rules of proper southern society and family dynamics. Rest in peace Aunt Charlotte. You left a beautiful legacy of strong and interesting women in your daughters and granddaughters. ?

My heart goes out to the daughters of this lovely woman I especially remember as my brother's bride with whom he eloped more than 60 years ago. She arrived in Saint Louis in a January blizzard, but warmed us with her soft, slow, southern voice.
