I knew Dan as Grandpa. I saw a side of him that many were not privy to, he was kind at his core and made extreme sacrifices for those he loved, God and country. A hero in more ways than just a pilot.
If you knew Dan and have any words, photos, remembrances or even have a similar life path please share and connect. This is how we remember those that gave all.

I'm probably too late getting into the game here, but just found this site. Around 1974, I was asked if I wanted to handle the check-out of a bird colonel in the T-38 so he would feel more comfortable in an F-5 as he was headed to Korea. A week later a big fellow walked in, stuck out a hand and said "I'm Dan McIntosh; I hear we're going to fly together".
What an amazing fellow! Yes, a highly regarded fighter pilot, but so warm and humble at the same time. We had to fly a navigation flight and I said where (in the U.S.) would you want to go. He said "Home", so off we went to Alexandria, LA where I was treated to dinner with Mrs. Mac. I have a few pic's if interested.

Sorry Joe Lee, but no one took credit. Here is the obituary page:

Lurch,
So glad you are still clever enough to keep the Obit as written. I was grinning the whole way through. If you can, thank the author (one of the daughters?) for me?? What a great tribute to an American Hero!!
Godspeed Colonel.

Dan was a great fighter pilot and leader. I had the good fortune to fly the F-105 with him as a young Lt. His guidance helped me get through a tough combat tour.

Sincerest condolences to Danielle. Thud pilots were some of the bravest flyers I ever had the pleasure to meet. I did not know your Dad personally, but through the stories related by Bob, I understand why you all loved and revered him. God bless you for your loss. Frank Tantalo
