Eleanor Langsdorf Obituary
Eleanor Marie Goeke Langsdorf passed away on October 9th in Austin. Born in St. Louis, Missouri on September 24, 1942, Eleanor was the first of six children. Her early years were spent on a truck farm until her family moved to the city where she attended St. George's School. She attended Bishop DuBorg High School where she met Lloyd, the love of her life. After graduating from Southeastern Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, taught high school math. She married Lloyd in 1966 and shortly thereafter they moved to suburban Chicago, where they had four children. Lloyd's career took them to Austin in 1978, where Eleanor continued to raise her family and substitute teach. As a new Texan, she enjoyed the history of many small Central Texas towns on weekend visits and developed deep friendships within the Quail Creek neighborhood. In 1986, they relocated to suburban Maryland where she taught high school math to teenagers in an alternate school. Upon retiring in 2005, Eleanor and Lloyd returned to Austin and began second careers as full-time volunteers, tending to the less fortunate in the way true followers of Christ must. Eleanor was extremely active at St. Albert the Great Parish accepting leadership roles in St. Al's Gals and Catholic Daughters of America. Eleanor was a staunch supporter of Drive a Senior (DAS), serving on the board, driving clients to appointments, and checking in on them with care packages. Her excellent math skills and attention to detail served her well as a super volunteer at VITA, preparing tax returns for others. In 2017, she received the Spirit of Service award from Coming of Age for her service to both VITA and DAS. She remained loyal to her extended family traveling to see them in St. Louis, Ohio, and Maryland at every opportunity. Her love of puzzles and reading was well known to all.
Eleanor is survived by Lloyd, her husband of 58 years, their children Leah (Stephen Tomasko), John (Leah Elizabeth), Anne, and Mark (Rhonda McAllister), three grandchildren, Alexandra Tomasko, Cameron Langsdorf, and Jude Langsdorf, and her brother Roy (Evelyn) Goeke, and sisters Mary Frank and Dorothy (Robert) Anton. Eleanor leaves a trail of friends and extended family members who already miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Hildegard (Kremer) Goeke, her brother James Goeke, and her sister Ruth Sindel.
A Mass celebrating Eleanor's life is planned for November 16th, 10 a.m. at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church (12041 Bittern Hollow, Austin TX 78758). Immediately following the Mass, all are invited to a luncheon in St. Albert's Seton Hall.
