The following is a letter written to Lucy from my dad. Thought it would be nice for everyone to see.

Missy

Dear Lucy: Only the most critical of priorities could have prevented me

from going to San Antonio and paying my respects to the memory of

Gilbert. Sadly, that was the case, but I was there in spirit as the

entire Mays family was in my thoughts and prayers.

I was privileged to have married into this wonderful family and I remain

eternally bound. Gilbert was the centerpiece for so many years. To say

he was a good man is a given but he was so much more. He was a gentleman

but he was also a gentle man--a quiet tower of strength with an inner

toughness to be admired by all. When I saw him the last time he

obviously looked different but as he gripped my hand and smiled I began

to see the old Gilbert and he was as he always had been--kind,

thoughtful, and as gracious as ever. I'm sure he felt some discomfort

but it didn't show. He was class!

To sum up how I felt about this man, I tried to think of how to describe

him in my memory and how you define the class he exhibited. He was

simply genuine and he was what he appeared to be--himself. I found

something about Queen Elizabeth some time ago and it was her motto that

she adopted to carry her through her long and regal life. Her creed was

a latin expression "semper eadem" and it means "always the same". It

would apply to Gilbert too--"semper eadem", always the same and that's

real class!! God bless you, Jim Bithas

P.S. Please allow me to contribute to a memorial to Gilbert as I don't

do flowers very well. I greatly admired Gilbert and I mourn his loss.

Missy, I am mailing this to Lucy today and I thought you might like me

to share it with you--I hope it brings some comfort.

Gilbert, I am so proud you are my brother. I will always remember the good times we had together; the b'day parties, dancing at SPJST, trips to Florida tubing down an ice cold river and your favorite song "ELVIRA". You"re the best cotton eyed joe dancer I know. I will seriously miss you but I am grateful that you did not suffer too long. Thanks for the memories. Love, Your little sister. P.S. If your buying drinks, Larry drinks rum and coke.

Dear Lucy,Carmen, and all who loved George,

I think it befitting this message be for all of us. In the Bible, Paul spoke about the love man should have for all others. He described how love should never be mean-spirited, posessive, or hurtful in any way. He also pleaded that all men enjoy the gifts of life and fear not the ugliness of anger and self-destruction. George (Gilbert) lived his life as Paul would have wanted. He never let a bad mood spoil a good one, and he was always in a good mood. I think in the coming months and years we can remember George best by living as he did. So bend down to help a child tie a shoe, take time to marvel at a glorious sunset, and laugh out loud as often as possible. That is what he would want.
