Glenn Withrow Obituary

WITHROW SR., Glenn Wood Glenn Wood Withrow, Sr, also known as Pappaw, of Austin, TX, passed away on August 10, 2018, at the age of 89. He was born to Elijah Lochlan and Annie Maude Sydnor Withrow on May 28, 1929, in Oak Hill, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years Ora Ruth Johnson Withrow; his parents; his brothers, Kenneth, Ivan, Dean, and Charles; and his sisters, Eva Gross, Zelpha Matheney, Lura Weed, Pilma Gollihugh, Thelma Irwin, and Charlotte Johnson. He is survived by his sons, Glenn Wood Withrow, Jr. and wife, Trina, and Michael Allen Withrow and wife, Judy; his grandsons, Christopher and wife Jaclyn, Stephen and wife Ali, and Matthew and wife Kristin; two great grandchildren, Walker and Lyla; his brother Carl (Jack) Withrow; and numerous nieces and nephews he loved dearly. Glenn was also fortunate to find a companion for his later years and enjoyed the company of Sue Roberts, whom he lovingly referred to as his lady friend. Glenn and Ora Ruth fell in love and were married in 1950 in West Virginia. They moved to Austin in 1967, after living in Brownwood, Rosenberg and Orange while Glenn worked his way up in the Sherwin Williams company. Glenn was the manager of the store at 500 E. Oltorf St. for many years. He received awards and commendations for his store's performance along with making life long friends. He retired in the mid 1980's and showed the family exactly what kind of man he truly was as he selflessly cared for Ora Ruth over the next twenty-five years. They traveled as they were able and enjoyed life, always making time to keep in touch with their families near and far. He was a Godly man with a heart of gold. He loved his church friends, his coffee group, and his neighbors. He considered all of them to be his extended family and was always the first one to help with any need. He was proud of his sons and grandsons and was quick to brag on them and tell them, and anyone else who would listen, just how proud he was of them. We will all miss his sense of humor, our daily phone conversations, and the hugs he was famous for. The family will have visitation on Monday, August 13, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Harrell Funeral Home on Frontier Trail. We look forward to hearing your stories of your friendship with Glenn. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church. We extend a special thanks to the caregivers at Synergy who cared for him. Should you wish to honor his memory with a donation, please feel free to donate to Woodlawn Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to: www.harrellfuneralhomes.com.
