Helen Hampton

1935 - 2018

HAMPTON, Helen Helen Warren Tutt Hampton was born in Dallas, Texas, on October 26, 1935, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest L. Tutt. Helen grew up surrounded by a warm and loving family of four daughters: Anna, Julie, Kay (Ernie), and Helen as well as many cousins, aunts & uncles. Helen was raised in Dallas and graduated from Highland Park High School and studied home economics, with an emphasis on interior design, at the University of Texas. She, her three sisters, and several cousins were members of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. While working as an interior designer at Anderson Studio in Dallas, Helen met her husband, Jack Hampton, an Assistant District Attorney, on a blind date in 1958. Jack and Helen were married in April 1959. They started a family in Dallas and moved into a home in Highland Park in 1962. Over the next thirty plus years in Dallas, Helen and Jack raised their five children there. In 1996, Helen and Jack retired and moved to Horseshoe Bay, Texas, onto a property that Helen chose and a home that she designed herself. This home is still used for family gatherings today. Her children remember her as a patient, loving, generous and artistic mother. She was also a caring and involved grandmother, gracious hostess to their friends, enthusiastic supporter of their schools and interests, and devoted wife to her husband, Criminal District Judge Jack Hampton. A woman of great faith and patriotism, she was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and later, the Church at Horseshoe Bay. Survivors include her husband, Jack Hampton of Horseshoe Bay, her sisters, Julie Beecherl of Dallas and Kay Carpenter of West Palm Beach, Florida, and her children Elaine and husband Dr. John Hall of Austin, Carolyn and husband Steve Kotyk of Flower Mound, Clayton and wife Pam Hampton of McKinney, Anna and husband Jose Salas of Austin, Andrew and wife Amy Hampton of Dallas, and sixteen grandchildren. The funeral service for Helen Tutt Hampton will be held on Saturday January 20, at 1 pm at The Church at Horseshoe Bay, 600 Hi Ridge Rd, Horseshoe Bay, TX 78657. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org.
