Herbert R. "Herby" McMains

Herbert R. "Herby" McMains "It is finished." Herbert R. "Herby" McMains, of Austin, passed away on October 24, 2009. He was born to Revy and Tommie McMains on January 17, 1930. Herby met Edline Becker in 1949 while they were employed at Scarborough's, it was love at first sight. They married in 1950 and went on to spend the next 59 years together. Herby enjoyed his church home and was a longtime active member of Faith Lutheran Church. Herby served his community as a fireman for over 37 years, retiring as Battalion Chief on February 19, 1988. Herby was a quiet, sweet man who loved UT football and golf. He was an excellent guitar player and singer who loved to share country music with all. He was known for his exceptional cooking, both at home and the firehouse. His favorite dish was enchiladas, the hotter, the better. Herby is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joe Buford McMains. Herby is survived by his wife, Edline Becker McMains; two daughters: Marilyn Butler and husband, Larry of Austin and Carolyn Koepf and husband, Tim of Austin; five grandchildren: Aaron Butler, Kevin Butler, Stacy Butler, Ashley Gladden and Jamie Gladden and husband, Chris Villarreal; three great grandchildren; sister, Maxine Sheppard of Austin as well as numerous special family members and friends. The family will receive friends in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 from Noon to 1:00 p.m. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, TX. The family would like to thank all the Drs., nurses and friends who helped us.
