1944-2014
Our beloved Joe Castillo Serrano, age 70, resident of Elgin, was called by our Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 1, 2014
He served in the Army from 1966-1977, toured in Vietnam and retired as a Captain.
He was preceded in death by his parents Isabel and Guadalupe Serrano and 6 loving brothers and sisters.
Mr. Serrano is survived by his loving wife Margaret M. Salazar; children Andy, Celeste, Miguel; step-children Belinda, Abel, and Julian; 6 grandchildren; and sisters Isabel, Terry, and Carrie.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Elgin. Memorial Mass, 10:00 a.m., Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Elgin. Graveside to follow Mass at 12:00p.m., at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Joe was truly one of the nicest people I met working for the state. I worked with him at ECI. He was funny and kind. He had many years of experience and knowledge which he shared. I loved being part of the Monday morning quarterback chats with him and Roland. He was such a fan of the Longhorns and the Cowboys. He is missed already. God bless his family. God has a real Texas treasure with him now.

Les acompanio sentimiento a toda la familia y que Joe descanse en paz. He was a good friend and he would come see me @ Amaya's with his son who was playing football. We always had good conversations and many a good laughs. This last Christmas he surprised me with a bottle of Crown Royal and then I never saw him again. Then I happened to run into him @ Dans Hamburgers about 2 months ago and he told me about his illness. We talked and we gave each other a camarada hug. Lots of emotion in the air and this was the last time I saw him. A good man and although he is gone the friendship will always stay here with me. May he rest in peace in heaven.
