Jonathan Lee Gehm, aka Jonny/Jon/Dad was born on February 19, 1963, in Denton, Texas. Jonny passed away in Austin, Texas on February 16, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Jonny's childhood was filled with curiosity and energy towards life. He grew up in many different parts of Texas, and he graduated from high school in Wichita Falls, where he met some of his most cherished lifelong friends.
After moving out at 18, Jonny took the scenic route through his early 20s, farming and painting houses to support himself while attending college. Jonny had a hunger for life, adventure, and the outdoors. At the age of 22, Jonny bicycled over 3000 miles across the continent of Australia, beginning in Perth and ending in Cairns. He would later cycle coast to coast across the United States, beginning in Lake Placid, New York and ending in Santa Barbara, California with his favorite cycling companion John Thomas (JT). Jonny also cycled across the Scandinavian arctic circle with his brother Robin Quick and JT. He graduated from Texas Christian University's Ranch Management Program in 1986 and the University of Texas in 1990.
Jonny met the love of his life, Amy Gehm while in Austin, Texas. In 1992, Jonny and Amy married and began their life in Austin. Above a life filled with adventures and achievements, Jonny was most proud to have a family and to have raised his two sons, Carter and Ryan. He was an amazing father to them and filled the house with laughter and joy. He also devoted countless hours as a parent and Assistant Scoutmaster to the Boy Scouts of America through Troop 70, where the Gehm boys hiked and camped across multiple high adventures. Some of Jonny's most cherished adventures with his family included skiing in Telluride, hiking in Crested Butte and numerous national parks, backpacking in Europe, touring Japan, and snorkeling across various islands. Jonny's love for travel infected his family and both of his sons got engaged on different family trips.
Jonny was a lifelong learner and was always looking for new ways to challenge himself. Jonny truly believed life is what you make it, and squeezed life for everything it was worth, a philosophy he learned from his late great aunt, Lucy Lee Cousins.
Originally finding his start in agriculture, Jonny spent fifteen years managing farming operations, through multiple counties. This experience served him well throughout his broad career as a managing principal in investment banking, overseeing a mortgage banking startup, and helping refine operations and quality control at Tekmos, a small international semiconductor company. Jon closed his career as Vice President of Operations at Tekmos, where he'd served since 2011. In addition to his career, Jonny also always had several simultaneous projects, including restoring his ranch to a natural Texas wildlife state, trading stocks, cooking, and writing stories.
Jonny loved nature, and was most at peace doing something active outside. His love for life and smile were contagious, and laughter followed him wherever he went.
Jonny deeply loved all of his friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Amy Gehm, sons Carter (wife Keeli), Ryan (fiancée Sarah), parents, Rosellen Kerr Sheetz (husband John), Dr. John Gehm (wife Kathi), G.W. Quick (wife Pat), his two brothers, Robin Quick (wife Kim), Chris Gehm (wife Holly), aunt, Kay Gehm, brother in law, Jim Jimmerson (wife Wendy) and many nieces and nephews. In his final days, Jonny encouraged all of his loved ones to live a life filled with love, forgiveness, and faith.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Jonny's life on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at noon at the Riverbend Smith Family Chapel, 4214 N. Capital of Texas Highway, Austin, Texas 78746 with a gathering thereafter at the Gehm's residence.
