Kathy BLAIR Obituary

BLAIR, Kathy Lynn

Kathy Lynn Blair of Austin, born in Burbank, CA on May 31, 1961 departed to be with the Lord on Dec. 6, 2014. She was a beloved mother, daughter, and sister, in addition to her legacy as a teacher, mentor, encourager, and friend. For twenty years Kathy served as the Director of the Christian Choral Society of Austin and impacted hundreds of lives throughout the greater Austin area. In addition she shared her musical gifts by serving as the Music Coordinator for Redeemer Presbyterian Church's Cedar Park site and singing in the Redeemer Choir. The outpouring of grief and loss at her death is a testimony to her impact on the lives of hundreds of people, including her family, friends, and her students and their families. Kathy's life was an example of perseverance in the faith and hope in God's sovereign mercy; she fulfilled well her calling to sing his praises and teach and inspire others to do the same.

She is survived by her children, Hannah and Joseph Hargis; her mother, Inge Elbourne and her stepfather, Bob Frohn; her sister, Kirsten Mathieson; and her niece and nephew, Melissa and Cliff Mathieson.

She is predeceased by her father, Tim Elbourne and her brother, Tim Elbourne Jr.

I am so sorry to be posting so long after the fact. I simply never made the connection before; if I saw the name Kathy Blair, I did not connect it with the Kathy Hargis we knew so long ago. But today I saw a brief caption re the events occurring now, and I knew somehow, immediately, irrevocably, that this was our Miss Kathy. It was no surprise to read further and see that her son's name was Hargis...Kathy was a wonderful person, a shining light, bubbling with laughter, a loving nurturer of all God's children, kind, warm, stunningly beautiful inside and out. She taught my daughter in Christian Choral society for several years, more than 13 years ago.(My daughter is 22.) Although my Christian faith was never as muscular as hers, I knew how important her faith was to her, and I appreciated that here was a truly good woman, a real Christian if you like, one utterly without hypocrisy or judgment, whose joy was only matched by her humility and gratitude at receiving such great gifts from her God. She shared the Good News unstintingly, because keeping it to herself was an impossibility, but she did so with gentle grace, humor, and persuasion, never coercion, bluster, or intimidation. It is rare to encounter someone out in the World so truly good, and my family and I are abundantly blessed to have had this privilege. RIP, Kathy. You will be sorely missed, and you can say without hesitancy, "Resurgam". With the utmost love and sadness, Barbara Szalay (Mirrop), Sam Mirrop, and Anne.

I just found out about darling Kathy today. I grieve for myself of course, but for all from whom she was taken. I didn't communicate with her much recently. Even with Facebook. What a glorious spirit. I am sorry we didn't stay in touch. I am utterly shocked, I am so, so sorry for all of those in Texas that had her around all the time. I am deeply saddened for her family. You are in my prayers.

A loss of our loved ones is never easy to deal with, but we have hope. We are given a promise and hope that we can see our loves again. They will live on the earth, in peace, and forever.
